Shoot! We're starting in a week and a half and we don't get fall break, or Col. Day, or Vet. Day. There is only a two day break for T-giving and some districts around Boise don't get a full two weeks for Christmas!!! We do get a week off at the end of March and then we go until June 8 or 9. All that for the 45th lowest average salaries in the nation!! It's a good thing I like what I do because you sure can't join this profession for the perks!

Idaho may be 45th lowest in teacher salaries maybe, but since teacher salaries generally run above local salary averages in most all locales in the USA... count your blessings for having such a job.

Idaho overall salary average I think is around $30-35,000,
and Idaho teacher salaries average is around $44-48,000 or so if my sources are correct... so it sounds like you're ahead of the curve :)

Plus, if it's like it is in Tennessee-- with great job security, with less competition for teaching jobs because of overly stringent licensing requirements, with all holidays and about 8 weeks in the summer off -- well, no matter how bratty some kids may get in class, it's clearly a sweet, sweet job. Which is why my wise and practical friends in college switched to Elementary Education degrees while I got my useless Engr-Mgt and Radio-Television-Film degrees :)

Many schools in the southeastern US have Fall Break the middle two weeks of October. I know many, many families heading down during October 16-22 from my son's school alone. I would go the first week of October or in November if possible.

Are you just tryin' to scare us all off so y'all will have the parks to yourselves? ;) (Just kidding :) )
I was afraid that week would be busy!

Nope, it's true. :teeth: Many, if not most, TN schools go back anywhere from Aug. 1-Aug. 10 or so, and get fall break the 2nd or 3rd weeks of Oct. Then they are in session till around Dec. 16-20, then are off till Jan. 1-3. It just varies by school district, but the great majority fall into those dates.

Our fall break is actually October 13th-October 16th returning on school on the 17th. It's kinda weird its actually and friday/monday break so a 4 day weekend. My kids will miss 4 days of school.

We live in California and I have never heard of "Fall Break" before!

My DD just started school on Tuesday, though, so it would seem really weird to have a week off in the next few weeks! Weird but fun!

My children started this past Tuesday as well..... BUT we went to WDW last year October 2005, and let me tell you...... We learned what a "FALL" vacation was!!!! Fall vacations= BIG Crowds!!!!

We took our children out of school, because we figured we would have a lesser crowd situation at WDW (now I know WDW is pretty much always crowded) But, we were un-aware of fall vacations until we were there and asked people why it was so crowded, and they told us, some states start back to school in the beginning of August and they have fall vacations!!!

Mass schools do not have anything like that!!! just off on Columbus Day that's it!

No fall break for us in Long Island, New York either. The kids do not go back to school until after Labor Day. Then they have off 10/2 & 10/9 for two holidays. We are going to WDW for nine days and my children (and my niece and nephew) will be missing four days of school.

There wasn't a "what the heck is fall break" choice, so I couldn't respond :). It's not a thing we have down here in Florida.

I'm in Florida- and we have Fall Break. We also start school the first of August, so I think that has something to do with it. Two years ago fall break got skipped because schools were closed for 2-3 weeks from Ivan, so they had to make up where ever possible.

Here in Alabama, we started having a Fall Break about three years ago. It is the best thing. :cool1: It is a great time of year to take a vacation. Ours is Oct. 9 -13th. We started school Aug. 4th. It was really hot, and the kids didn't want to go back to school, but once they found out we were going to WDW, they didn't mind it anymore. :rotfl:

Our school district let the parents vote on it in the beginning. Start school early - get a fall break, start school later - no fall break. An overwhelming majority voted for early school and Fall Break.

Usually we don't start until Aug. 10th, but the AL Legislature decided to add 5 days to our school calendar. Like 5 days is going to make my kids that much smarter. :rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao: I think they were trying to make us in line with the states around us.

Anyway, we go to Disney in a month. :cool1: :cheer2: :yay: :bounce: :dance3:

Ours is the week of the 9th.Our school district for elementary is Cycle break, start July end in June.. Go 9 weeks off 3...the middle schools and high schools start in august, end in May. A few years ago there were ALOT of kids in middle and Highschool being taken out for "vacations" during the "fall cycle" break.. so they worked in the "fall break" so they will not loose out on Fed funding with absences.. or so they say.. most school officals will deny this but :confused3 afer all it's the fed funding that counts the most.

The first year we went to Disney it was not so crowded, tho the past 2 years attendance has picked up. Both nights of MNSSHP that we went to were sold out... due to Columbus day I'm sure.

counting the days.....

I just checked the poll results, and if it is any indication of the general population attending the parks for those weeks, then I'm pretty happy! :cool1: My week doesn't seem half as "crowded" as the other weeks!
But even for the fall, "crowded" has a different meaning than July "crowded"
Have fun everyone :goodvibes

Yep, we'll be there Oct. 7-14! I can't believe how many Tennessee posters I've seen here! Maybe we should wear orange instead of lime green to recognize each other (Or just look for the grumpy husbands who are missing the Vols game on those Saturdays... :rotfl: )

We always get off the 3rd Friday in October and the the Thursday and Friday of the next week. So I usually schedule trips for that week and then DD only misses 3 days of school. Plus we can leave on that Friday before and make it even longer!!! :cool1:

Last year is when we did the Magic that week....This is the first year that we have nothing scheduled for that week. :confused3

Instead I am pulling her out a couple days in December so we can enjoy the MVMCP.

Next year though we are going away for that 3rd week in October....

Plus booking the Magic again for that week 2008 so I hope they keep the same days off each year.... :goodvibes
