I thought it might interesting to see how many reservations are cancelled.

Poll Question:

How many DVC reservations have you made and then subsequently cancelled in the past 12 months?

Great poll. I hope a lot of people answer and answer honestly. It will give us an idea of what our chances are in getting what we REALLY want. The only time I have changed reservations because of US has been when we decided to do the cruise last year. Other than that, it has been as a result of calling and getting what we really wanted in the first place thru some flexibility on our part. I find myself taking anything that fits something close to what we want. ie: any week in the fall, be it Oct., Nov. or the first 2 weeks in Dec. Then trying for a Sun. thru the next Mon. which is often like an act of congress. Then trying for the size room; we always get a studio. Then trying for the resort; we bought at BWV because we like to stay there but there is not always an opening. Then trying for the view; we prefer to save on points when possible. All this becomes a tedious chore generally with MANY phone calls, and many disappointments. We are very flexible right up until we buy the plane tickets which is several months after we make the room ressies. I really didn't think it would be this hard and not to scare off any one new, and yes I have read where lots of people get exactly what they want the first try, but with as much flexibilty as we put up front it just seems like it should be easier!

THanks.

I voted "0", but after I made our December reservation, we decided to start off at Vero so I dropped / cancelled the first night of the original reservation. That's the only thing I remember changing or cancelling out of the four reservations made so far. Called at the 11 month window on all four and got exactly what we wanted.

I anawered 1-3 because, this year, I have. There was only one other time. The other time was because I got up late one day during my call every day to make reservations. One day I didn't call till 9:45 and all the Grand Villas were gone. I had to move my vacation.

Other than that, I never, ever move my reservations.

At first I was going to vote 0, but then I remembered I cancelled one week in a studio and rebooked one week in a 1-bedroom. According to Member Services it was only a modification (kept same reservation number) but since technically a studio became available I'll consider it a cancellation for this poll.

As a BWV owner I really wanted to stay at OKW for a trip but didn't want to wait for the 7 month window in case they were full. So I booked at BWV and then cancelled it and got OKW at 7 months.

I cancelled a ressie made for my father and sold the points. Have never cancelled a reservation made for ourselves.

Children are like phonecalls - they always come in pairs.

Once, I had to cancel our Dec ressies due to my finals. But we've decided to go this JUne so that helps with the sadness!

We had a 5 day reservation this Aug. for a standard studio at BWV. At the 7 month window we changed it for 3 nights at Vero and 3 nights at OKW.

I've had to cancel a couple of times. Only because I always book at the 11 month window and there have been instances when our dates had to change. This just happened to us very recently as we had to move our trip up one week. I was able to get exactly what I had for the cancelled week at 1 month out! That was nice.

I voted 0 yesterday. Then I realized that for our upcoming trip I did change the reservation from OKW to VWL to BWV. It was the same dates for each. But I guess you could actually count that as 2 cancellations for the year. Sometimes I forget that when the waitlist comes through you are actually cancelling the first reservation. Other than that I've never cancelled a reservation except a cash one for HH a few years back.

I didn't actually cancel, but changed my dates by one week. I guess this is considered cancellation becaue it did open up the original date and so I voted 1-3.

and then my in-laws took advantage of the 4 nites at $99 a nite with the 4th nite free and we stayed in the 2 bedroom with them on our way down to FL for a family wedding.

We did then use those points to book a stay for the 2nd week of May '01.

Booked BWV at 11 months but all the while hoping to stay at VWL. When 7 months came up we switched with no problem. But I'm glad I had the BWV ressies to fall back on and don't feel guilty in the least! Also had to change VWL ressies to a week earlier (and a day shorter :( ) since my honey couldn't get off work when we originally planned.
