Why don't they just get rid of the studio option all together.

Not an option IMO for those who bought the appropriate number of points to stay X amount of nights in a studio, you would certainly hear an outcry then. Honestly, how many DVCers actually check in here to find out "what's new @ home"...they may not even notice it when they do visit next.

I think the Moderates have become a better quality of vacation. I get glassware, maidservice everyday, and let's face it, better service to try to persuade me to come back.

My guess is there won't be any glasses/mugs/whatever in the resort accommodations either, especially when you add up the overall savings not purchasing all those little bottles of dish soap

BTW: You don't suppose they are downgrading the current DVC's in order for Kingdom Tower (which they are touting as something more upscale than current DVC resorts) to look even better. "Yep! You can stay at a studio at OKW for 8 pts a night. But look at this!!! Stay in a studio at Kingdom Towers, there we will pamper you! Real dishes, real glasses, and real coffee mugs. And we will even through in some dish soap. All for a great value of 20 pts per night."

Sad to see owners so disillusioned ...yet, don't see much point in blaming anyone or anything other than the powers that be @ DVC for this change, although I'm thinking it came down from Disney "proper" as a blanket edict; sounds like the legal beagles think only dishwashers are sanitary ]

As of March 2, 2008, we are removing the glassware to be consistent with
having disposable dishes and plastic ware in the studios...

SO, the main reason for DVC to make this change it to be consistent. Apparently, it was bothering them so much that we had mix of real glasses and mugs and disposable dishes and plastic ware, a huge faux pas, that they needed to take away the mugs so we could be consistent.

Can this statement be considered consistent with the last one recieved... That there were never mugs in the studios??

Personally, I find a sink with hot water and dish washing detergent enough equipment to wash dishes, maybe not sterilize them, but wash them. It is what I do at home after all! Perhaps it's just the maids that are unable to learn this skill ....maybe they should stick to dishwashers!

Except, I don't think the mods & deluxe resort had a bar sink, dishsoap, dish towel and sponge provided. Basically, it actually cost more to make such a change at those resorts, as there are no potential savings. However, nothing has even indicated, so far, that this is a resort-wide change...though I think it will be.

Also, it doesn't save Disney or DVC any money at the DVC resorts, either, as all DVC resort costs (supplies, housekeeping,etc.) are passed onto the membership through dues.

the deluxes i've visited have a coffee maker, mugs & glasses (you're not expected to wash your own dishes...you're on vacation not "home" ) & daily maid service.

I wonder if the costs (especially when it comes to items such as dish soap) are actual or stated/estimate of usage?

Would think there is cost savings to DVC for less man-hours involved in turning over the studios if mousekeeping doesn't have to wash the dishes...

less employees/benefits (if they get any in the 1st place) to get the job done...assuming they are Disney employed/compensated & not sub-contractors by the hour, charged to DVC Way deeper into the workings than i care to delve.

Whatever the true rationale, everything is done by design @ Disney

Hey, Larry, if you really want to be consistant why don't you bring back the real plates, bowls and real silverware that we used to have in the studios back in 1992? That would make it consistant with the glasses and mugs, wouldn't it. If Disney is worried about cleanliness, how about hiring staff that will wash the dishware.

One point about not having the dishwashing equipment on site at OKW and SSR. None of the linens are done on site either. All the linens are washed in a central plant just north of DTD. Very interesting facility, I toured there once. So, here's an idea, how about a central facility to wash glassware if there is a concern about how the housekeeping staff does it? The dirty dishware could be collected, and fresh dishware returned to the resort just like the linens.

Of course, now that Disney realizes they don't wash the sheets on site either, maybe they start giving us plastic disposal sheets, in our quasi-deluxe accomodations?

Shhh, we don't want to give them any more ideas...after all making EVERYTHING as disposable as possible would be even more "consistent."

I see this as a further chipping away of DVC. When we bought in 1997, we were very pleased with our purchase. This was something special. We felt like we really mattered to DVC and Disney. We didn't need any special perks, we just were a part of a very special process.

Now, there is just a push to raise the price of a point, to build more and more DVC units, to change the way it has operated in the past with changing banking deadlines (supposed to make it easier for us), charging closing costs to new members, cancelling Vacation Magic and replacing it with the generic Disneyfiles, etc. The person in charge got upgraded from Vice President to President of DVC, while we all got downgraded.

For every new perk they give us, strings are attached and they take away other perks. We got the AP discount, but lost the Length of Stay discount. We got the DDP, but lost the ability to dine in our studios.

Did anyone know that Jambo House villas would not be like the models when you toured the models? I didn't and was very surprised that the Jambo House villas did not have the separate tub and shower in the one bedroom and larger.

Everything that has been happening for the last three or four years has resulted in Disney getting more money from us and the members getting less in return.

Even the change in MS hours at first appeared to be great, but many members continue to complain about having to wait so long to get through. Did they just take the staff they had and spread them out over 7 days instead of five. And the late night hours on Thursday have disappeared all together.

We get CMs telling guests that it's not a problem to put 5 (all age three or older) in a studio. We get MS talking to non-members once again on calls that we pay for. A little training goes a long way.

It's just so disappointing.

You have summed up everything I have been thinking the past several years. The question is what do we try to do about this and who is in charge of Mr. Lewis and his Walmarting of DVC?
