No answer to this poll in incorrect .. We all use our DVC units differently ...some love their morning coffee or wine in the afternoon, others never think about coffee or drinking out of a glass, perhaps a soda can or water bottle is just fine ..

That said, I am not upset about this, I like clean, and having cups and glasses in a studio ..well, I would never use them without washing them first because I don't believe they are clean. I've seen the dirt first hand ..we had a 1-bedroom unit for a few days, then expanded to a 2-bedroom, we didn't have to move, just simply open up the connecting door to the studio ..this was OKW ..the room was clean and ready for our guests ..but the cupboard was filled with cups and glasses with bright red lipstick smears and one the mugs had left over coffee in it .. yuck and double yuck ..hauled everything to the 1-bedroom, including the coffee pot and ran it through the dishwasher before our guests arrived.

Now, I didn't realize they were taking away the dish soap too ... I think that's wrong, if you're giving guests a kitchen set up with a microwave, toaster, coffee pot, etc., you sould have supplies to clean with ..

I also agree with a previous poster than said even styrofoam is not guarnateed to be clean ..who knows what the person was doing prior to stocking the cups or perhaps they still have on their cleaning rubber gloves ... If they are doing this for sanitary reasons they should be hauling out the individually wrapped pastic cups and glasses.

I also see the point others are making about this change not being green.

AND...I also agree with others, that if it was really important to drink from a mug I'd call house keeping and ask for some ..along with dish soap or I'd go out and get a Disney mug ... I'm quite fond our our home collection and love adding to it!

For those of you who are passionate about this, I wish you luck with your campaign.

I haven't read all of the posts so this may have been mentioned. If so, I apologize. From what I did read, I'm probably in the minority - I applaud DVC for this (and I'm very green). I don't look at it as cutting back, I'm looking at it as more sanitary.

How many of us have posted about washing all the dishware when they check into their 1 & 2 BRs? Since they do not have a dishwasher in the studios, who is washing the cups & glasses? Mousekeeping? All they probably do is rinse them out (if that). I am sure that many of us use the dish soap plus hot water BUT there are probably just as many who don't.

If I want to drink out of a ceramic cup while staying in a studio, I'll bring my own.

Is generating additional unnecessary trash, including styrofoam products green now? :confused3 I thought we were supposed to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Disposable styrofoam products don't really accomplish that, so I'm confused by your statement that you are "very green" but feel this is an idea worth applauding Disney for.

I'm guessing that the person stocking the unwrapped cups and plates into the studios is the same person who just cleaned the bathroom.

According to the news stories, that person also stocked those cups wearing the gloves they just cleaned the toilet with.

Thank you for supporting my point that this is a biased poll. While you do have some concerns ('Reasons I am bothered by it') you voted 'who cares', which does not seem to be your actual intended response.

I for one cannot take the poll results as an indicator of how posters here actually feel about the situation.

As another example, some readers who 'are not affected by this change' as they only stay in 1 or 2 bedroom units may actually care about the subject. Not being impacted does not necessarily mean that one does not have a concern. Thankfully not everyone is so self centered to only care about the topics which negatively impact them.

I also agree that this poll is biased, but I am not surprised. ;)

If housekeepers are rinsing glasses/mugs in the studios, then that's a procedural problem that's easily addressed ( - no, not by eliminating mugs/glasses! - ). Housekeeping simply hauls away the used glasses/mugs and replaces them with sparkling clean ones from the housekeeping cart. I can't imagine that housekeepers are instructed to hand-wash glasses and mugs in the studios. That's just too creepy!

I know we are all waiting to hear what Disney's response will be in 5 days, but I think we've already gotten the response we're going to get.

That we were all imagining those ceramic mugs and real glass, glasses. The DVC line will be that there has been no change in the studios.

Don't even bring up the pictures....anyone could have photoshopped them in.

The housekeepers have to wash the cups and glasses in OKW and I believe SS - they don't have housekeeping carts at those resorts. The linens etc. for your room are left outside your door in a laundry basket by the houseman. The housekeeper goes to the housekeeping locker to get the paper goods. And I called today - the styrofoam glasses are not wrapped - they are kept in the housekeeping closet in bulk - and then yes, after what after the housekeeper was doing - she/he will go and get your paper products.

I am in food service and this practice would not be allowed in our industry. All employees must wash their hands before touching your food, plates, cups, glasses, etc. We can never be sure what the housekeeper was doing before they went for our eight styrofoam glasses.

As others have said, the choices given for the poll are poorly written. I voted that I hate the change. For coffee drinkers, a styrofoam cup is not okay. But even if you are not a coffee drinker, the change just smacks of cheapness to me. Poor decision making on the part of DVC management.

This is exactly what happened the the one time I called to request clean Glasses & Mugs after I checked in. The Mousekeeper came to the room with some unknown substance in a generic spray bottle and a sponge & towel. She then proceeded to wash the glasses & mugs that wre already in the room with the previously supplied dishwashing liquid. Fortunately she didn't use whatever was in the spray bottle. I guess she saw me look at it a little funny when she walked in with it. Needless to say I decided from then on I would just wash everything myself at the beginning of each stay before using any of it. And it all gets washed again as I use it. I would never dream of leaving the dirty stuff behind for the next guest.

You know, without the dishwashing liquid, it has me wondering, how do they expect the housekeeping staff to wash the coffee pots? I know some people don't wash them with soap because of the flavor it can leave, but in a common pot, I would think it should be washed out. Without palmolive in the room, how will housekeeping wash it. Eww, I don't know if I even want to think about it. :confused3

I called directly to housekeeping OKW -

The mugs and glasses are gone - they have been replaced with eight (8) styrofoam glasses.

The styrofoam glasses and not sealed - they are kept in bulk in the housekeeping closet and brought to your room by the housekeeper.

The soap and sponge are still there. No one has been told to take them out at OKW.

This is per housekeeping at OKW

Personally this is a STUPID move. I get REAL glasses and mugs at the local Marriott. Once again Disney management shows they don't have a CLUE. They want to rent these rooms at "deluxe" prices and provide the same "amenties" I get at a Comfort Inn?????

While I generally don't join the DIS Board outcry I am writing and calling on this one. And when I check into my studio in a few weeks, I plan to go to the front desk and talk with the manager on duty!

They need to do the right thing and this was not it. I also requested a dues reduction in my email. I mean it appears I am now getting "Comfort Inn" amentities so why should I get charged Disney "delxue" pricing?

I voted I am not really affected. Yes, we will only stay in studios, but from past experience it only happens once or twice per vacation that we have a hot drink in our room. I am a soda addict so I will definitely get the refillable mug and if dh does feel the need for some coffee in the studio, he can just rinse out and use my mug. We also had rooms with microwaves before and never used it once. So I don't think this will affect us at all. However, I still hate the idea of disposables from a purely environmental point of view. This is so incredibly wasteful.

I too think that this change is making my beloved dvc look like a Motel 6.

I think the big picture that has not been mentioned is the out sourcing of housekeeping and valet attendants. My last stay at BWV the valet left my lights on and ran my battery down. I then had to argue with the valet desk about replacing my battery. Luckily the Manager of the resort did great customer service.

I think this whole change would have been avoided if housekeeping was still part of the Disney magic. I feel there would have not been a news story that may have added to this change.

Agree or disagree, every little change like this that goes with out speaking up will embolden Disney to lie even more.

guess you all missed my thread on resort board awhile back:rolleyes1 ; check out the CR maid & coffee cup:scared: (about 1-1/2 min into the clip)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi2ObF5c51I

assume the cups will be disappearing in the resorts too, rather heavy-handed way to solve a problem imo:confused3

 just another way to get people to buy souvie mugs while @ WDW

I made the point in another thread, and so have others.

The thing is...it doesn't really solve the problem.

At least with the glasses and ceramic mugs, you had the option of washing them, by hand, before use.

They polystyrene cups, besides being awful for the environment, aren't individually wrapped, or sealed. So that mousekeeper washing the cups with their gloves on and improper cleaning materials....they're the one touching the "disposable" cups with those same gloves on....possibly just after cleaning your toilet or pulling hair out of a drain.

I'm not sure that's any more sanitary than what WAS going on...and it eliminates the opportunity for guests to "intervene" and clean their own cups before use.

I'll stop at Walmart & pick up my glasses, mugs and dish soap I guess! What a really stupid policy...

During the year, I spend about 60 nights in a DVC studio. This change will have a big impact on my trips and will be a huge inconvenience. I will now have even more stuff to purchase and drag to WDW.

I always wash all glassware, mugs and the coffee maker prior to using them. I reuse the plasticware and do my part to be green.

But styrofoam is environmentally wrong. And it so cheapens DVC. I have to wonder, what's next?!?
