Am I selling my meagher 200 pts because I now have to use styro cups? No, of course not. But, I just don't like the attitude that DVC seems to have adopted. To try and tell us that mugs/glassware were never there? Puleeze!
Have I 'written everyone I can think of'? No, but I have sent out my email, got the stock response that it has been forwarded to Member satisfaction, to expect a response in 5 days. We'll see. I would love to speak to a human about this. It is so 'not green'...talk about environmentally wrong!!

I don't like the new policy- for a few reasons- but I am not writing letters about it.
So, I didn't vote as none of the choices would be accurate.

As has already been mentioned, this is a very poorly written poll skewed to the OP's feelings on this subject.

Does this affect me? Yes and No. I don't plan on ever staying in a studio again for space reasons. However, I did get a studio for my Dad in December and I would have been embarrased if the Deluxe accomodations I had told him about came with plastic & styrofoam cups. Cost wise, I bet it will affect me at some point and when it comes to the environment it will affect all of us.

Am I writing to everyone? No, I sent my one email to DVC on Sunday and am waiting to hear back from member satisfaction. If I don't hear back, I will start emailing more people. I really am a very nice person, but don't tell me you'll contact me within 5 days and then not :headache: and don't even get me started on the "there were never mugs & glasses in the studios" :furious:

One last thing, let me tell you how well this went over with DD14, the socially, politically, enviromentally active Disney Lover  This is the girl who bought her "Green is the new Black" t-shirt at AKL in December :furious:

I voted "who cares" but I do care if only from an environmental standpoint. Washing those insanely small glasses and mugs in that teeny tiny sink was always a PITA for me but I thought "well, at least it's helping the environment".

Might be time for me to look into OL.

I don't know which I hate worse, those one-slurp-of-coffee mugs or disposables clogging up the landfills. Neither past nor present options for drinkware in the studios was acceptable for me but I suppose the new policy is slightly worse.

I voted "I hate it" and wrote the email below to:

Dear Member Satisfaction Team,

I've heard from several friends that the studios no longer have glassware and ceramic coffee mugs, but have been replaced with styrofoam. This is a change that concerns me deeply as a loyal Disney fan and DVC owner.

Styrofoam drinkware just feels cheap, something that I didn't spend $15,000 to experience in my home away from home resort. I don't drink out of styrofoam at home, and I don't relish the thought of having to do that at Disney.

I'm also concerned about the environmental impact. My understanding is that styrofoam is the worst possible disposable item - both for what it does as waste, and the resources used in making it in the first place. Given Disney's interest in environmentality, this just doesn't make sense.

I recognize there may be a concern about the ability to clean the glasses. Surely there is a cost-effective way to remove and deliver clean glasses in between guest stays. The deluxe resorts surely aren't going to offer styrofoam, so perhaps following their methods would help? In fact, it should be much easier for DVC given that each room doesn't have to be cleaned each day, and studios are only a small part of the inventory. Also as a guest, I'm quite happy to wash my own glasses in order to have coffee out of a real mug and a glass of wine in actual glassware. Have you ever wanted to drink wine out of a styrofoam cup, or have a cocktail?

How would you serve tea or hot chocolate in your studio when you can't heat water to boiling in a styro cup and there is no sensible way to clean the coffee pot so that the coffee taste is removed?

To me, Disney is about quality and about going above and beyond. This is the kind of decision I would expect from a Motel 6. It just doesn't make sense, and it makes it harder for potential DVC owners to take the program seriously when they can get better quality by staying in a deluxe or moderate resort, or off-property.

Thank you for your attention to my concern. I exclusively stay in Studios, so this change has hurt rather than enhanced my DVC experience.

Dirk

I don't book studios, but I do care about this issue, because it "cheapens" what is suppose to be a high end quality product.

I care because I never think introducing mass use of plastic products is ever a good idea.

I question the change, why now? Glass ware has been good enough for years.

I also question management that takes it upon themselves to decide what is "best" for its membership, implying the membership can't make that decision themselves.

I just see this minor thing to be another in a line of major things DVC feels they can push on its membership without any recourse.

I think it is just another indication of the mindset that former members are not important, that DVC is going to make changes and push the line that the new members don't care. Well that is simply because they did not experience the better DVC that we all bought into.

DVC is still a good product, but it is not the product I bought into years ago and the changes have not been an improvement.

Count me in as one that doesn't like this change at all. Most of my stays are in the studios. I will learn to adjust. And we may not win this argument. But as in Indiana Jones "The Last Crusade" says, "You may have lost this time. But it doesn't mean you have to like it." (or something like that).

I have sent my letter in and will wait to see what happens. In the meantime, everyone staying in studios should take thier baby bottles to the front desk and ask, "Can you wash this for me, there is no soap in my studio." Or any other drinking item they would like to wash.

love it!!!:rotfl: :lmao: :cool1: :rotfl2:

I also am not wild about the wording of the poll. I voted "I hate it I am writting (sic) EVERYONE!!!" even though I did NOT write everyone.

Good point Sammie. I wonder what's really behind this decision.

I won't miss the glassware and mugs or those cheap sponges and stinky Palmolive either but what is the point of this change. Seriously, I just don't get it. It seems ill thought out and wasteful IMO.

I need to borrow a baby! This one is precious.

You have got to be kidding me who cares I dont spend that much time in my room.

I didn't really know how to vote given the options, but I'll post my thoughts here.

While I am not outraged by the change, I am not pleased with it either. To me, it seems quite cheap to have styrofoam cups in the studios when they are billed as deluxe accommodations. I also think it is a poor idea to remove the sponge and dish soap making it impossible for folks to wash anything unless they bring their own with them.

While we aren't coffee drinkers and won't miss the mugs, we do use the glasses for tooth brushing and taking medications. It seems like a lot of waste to have to use a styrofoam cup for that.

I just don't want it to get to the point where I have to take a bunch of supplies with me just to have what I need for vacation.

you can't the styrofoam cup is not strong enough to hold your tooth brush....

Who cares!!:confused3

It doesn't bother me, even though I stay in a studio for most of my stays. If I wanted a mug or glass cup that much I would bring/buy my own.

I think you have not listed a variety of choices. What about those who care, but don't "hate" it. I do not support the decision, so I have picked "I hate it" although that would not be the wording I would use.
