Ahhhh, liberal tolerance. What a close-minded hateful human being Linda is.

I see, in your mind, saying you feel a conflict is the same thing as saying that she cannot stand the fact that some people are republicans.....now how did I know the actual words might differ from what you said?
The Republican Party is the party of love and opportunity for all Americans, the American celebrity (and far left liberals) are the most elitist, hateful group of bigots currently in our great nation.
hmmm...you call others the most hateful elitist group of bigots in the same sentence where you claim to be for love and opportunity for all Americans?????? Helllloooooo can you not see how absolutely ridiculous that is? wait...let me be just like you and paraphrase at will....republicans are kind and gentle and love everyone, except the liberals who are hateful bigots. Yeah right !

I dont' have a huge problem with celebrities speaking out about politics. However, I do have a problem with people grasping onto everything they have to say and following their ideals. Our society is FULL of impressionable people who tend to look to celebrities as role models. Many celebrities speak out against certain parties and this encourages other people to do the same, without thinking for themselves.

FYI: Dennis Miller and Rush Limbaugh are paid to give their two cents about politics.

Personally, the louder and the more people yelling about the
horrible scare tactics, lies,mysogenistic personalities,horrible
job conditions, war mongering, rob from the poor and give to
the rich mentality, arrogance, I've got mine ideology and
more things I just can't bear to think about - the better.
Yell it from the rooftops, tell everyone you know. If you are
a celebrity and can talk to many at once, do it and help unite
this force coming from inside the minds and hearts of many
true Americans who will elect men and women who care about
the common man and don't just use him for their games.
Sing all ye that sing. Speak, all ye that speak. Let the writers
write, the artists paint-sculpt-sing, the dancers dance. We all
have the same message and are of the same mind. Let's send
George W Bush back to Texas into the arms of Halliburton and
those who brung him!!!!!

shortbun, I think I love you! :teeth: I definitely love your way with words! Amen and Hallelulah! ::yes::

The Republican Party is against gay marriage, anti-environmentalist, anti-affirmative action, and pro death penalty....If you are ANY of the things that you say you are, well...I don't know how anybody that claims that could call themselves a Republican...particularly under THIS president...

Seriously, I'm not trying to just be difficult, but if ANY of those issues actually mattered to you, how could you possibly call yourself a Republican ?

Because the Republican economic plan allows for a lot more upward movement than the Democratic. I hope to one day get out of the lower tier economic bracket, and I think electing Republicans will produce an enviroment that is more conducive to economic mobility. I am pro-life and this issue is very important to me, I have a hard time considering pro-choice candidates (although I have voted for a few). I am 100% behind the international policy of George Bush and admire his vision. And I love George's attitude. Those are the four main reasons I am a huge GWB supporter.

has it occurred to anyone that if celebrities had power to influence peoples' opinions we would be a country of nothing but raving liberals? Does anyone actually know of a person who has changed their vote because a celebrity influenced them?

Despite a posters assertion that
Our society is FULL of impressionable people who tend to look to celebrities as role models.
an incredibly condescending view, I happen to think that most people are smart enough not to vote for someone just because their favorite singer did.

I don't think it's condescending at all, actually. It's the truth. Why do you think networks, such as MTV, have celebrities try to endorse specific political parties? It's a strategy. I don't agree with it at all, but sadly it's a reality. I speak from experience, I'm only 21 and have witnessed stupid people actually admitting to this! I've even had professors admit to imposing their viewpoints over to others to try to gain political support for their friends. I think it's sad that people, especially young adults, can't think for themselves and form their own ideas and opinions.

Celebrities and their political views make me sick... I mean who cares what the political views are of someone who's on a sitcom or some other stupid show.... like their views matter.

LOL! I thought when you said you were an environmentalist,
you meant the earth-now I see that it's your own environment
you are supporting!!! Also, "the international policy of George
Bush?", you've got to be kidding!!!! What policy is that? Maybe you mean, start a war and make my friends rich while the poor
suckers who are willing to fight for their country sacrifice their
lives to make the lives of "My base" better. Some policy!
Or how about go fishing while someone else handles the hard
stuff; that's an admirable policy too! geesh Last , I can see why YOU like GWB's attitude. You are stunnin me again darlin'.

::yes:: Very good points!

Seems that conservative celebrities are not making many waves. I know there aren't many of them but they're fairly quiet or not getting the air time.

Question:

What do the conservative posters think of Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Charlton Heston. Was it ok for them to join
the political fray or is it just the liberals you don't like?

We just spent $85 a ticket to see Don Henley in concert. For those Bush fans - take this as a warning. My point is, I have no idea what his political ideas are (nor do I care). I paid (ALOT) of money to go and see him sing his tunes and the Eagles tunes if at all possible. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED when he broke out in the middle of the concert about some stupid song bashing Bush and Cheney. HELLO! He doesn't know me or anybody else in the audience! These celebs think that because everybody else in Hollywood feels this way that most of America does too. They are really out of touch. No matter how you slice or dice it, about half of this country DISAGREES with them. Kind of stupid to go out on a limb in a strange city and just assume that a song like he sang would be such a great idea. Well, the audience treated him pretty luke-warm for that song. Really, most of us I think just wanted him to move on and sing the Eagles and other tunes we were hoping to hear. I have to say that the rest of the concert from that point was disappointing to me. I couldn't help it, but I just felt a certain level of disgust. I mean, I guess we could have walked out, but really we spent ALOT of money to see him sing the tunes that I like and I shouldn't have to walk out.

My point in all of this is getting back to the original poster's question. I didn't pay to see him bash my President. I paid to see him sing his songs. I don't care what his politics are, but I don't want to sit through 5 minutes of having it forced on me. I personally don't think it's censorship to have management at the theater request artists to stick to what they were hired for.

The problem is, I had NO idea going into this that I would be subjected to this. It wasn't as if I paid $85 a ticket to see somebody like Barbara Streisand...then I might have expected it more or less.

I don't mind anyone spouting their political opinions. Most of the lefty Hollywood types don't come off looking particularly intelligent or well-informed when they do so (there are some exceptions, but for the most part, I don't think it helps their cause).

As far as cases like Linda Ronstadt's, she's not paid to present her political views, so if the employer doesn't like it, the celebrity has no legitimate gripe. It's a business.

That's the thing, it's the time and place. I really don't care if celebrities feel they need to show their political beliefs, if I turn on the TV and see that some star was at a political rally or convention - I have no problem with that, regardless of their party. It's when you pay money to see them perform and they use that time to campaign - that I believe is wrong. As for Ronald Reagan, Arnold and Heston, if they had interupted their movies to run a political ad or to campaign for a candidate or bad mouth the other side then I would again be against it because again I paid to see them perform. Since they never did that I don't see how anyone can compare them ;)

At least they put their money where there mouth is. They all gave up working in the entertainment business to devote time to public service. Unlike the others discussed here who took cheap shots and ran back to LA.

Really? Are you saying they never utterred a political word until they announced their candidacies? Surely you know better. Really, this whole thing is so absurd. Who gives a rat's behind which celebrity said what? If they want to make idiots of themselves spouting off, so what? Nope....let's make a huge deal out of it and keep discusing it to death. Let's squeeze it into the news shows between the "experts" telling us all about martha and scott and any other completely inane subject rather than focus on any real election issue.

I certainly do not recall any of these gentlemen causing uproars during their performances spouting political rhetoric. Does anyone else? I think that we might agree that thoughtful, reasoned discussions about political views in the appropriate setting is welcome.
