Political: Celebrities declare own war -- on Bush

I think Linda Rondstadt is getting exactly what she needed and wanted... attention. For the first time since the Reagan administration she is actually being mentioned by someone other than Delilah.

My main problem with celebrities bashing Bush is their close-mindedness and bigotry. They think anyone who disagrees with them is evil and wrong. I can accept that they are against the war, but I can't accept that they hate the Commander in Chief and hate anyone who disagrees with them. It's their lack of open mindedness, bigotry, pompousness, and hatred that is really driving this backlash in my opinion. I am so sick of rich snobs telling me that liberating Iraq was wrong, and that tax cuts don't help the economy and that if I disagree I'm a zealot. They can disagree with the President, but if someone disagrees with them then they are right wing fanatics. Hell no, I'm sick of it.

Sorry, Joe, but I had to literally laugh out loud when I read your post. I'm assuming you are joking, right? Some kind of satire on the habits of the Bush administration when someone openly disagrees with them? If not, can you please give me an example of the "closemindedness and bigotry" you've experienced from celebrities who choose to speak out against the current administration?

Personally, I don't think its that big of a deal. They're people, like all the rest of us, and have opinions, like all the rest of us. It just so happens that when they talk politics at work, lots and lots of people hear them.

An example? Linda Rondstadt saying she can't stand the fact that some of her fans are Republicans.

Or all of these celebrities such as Johnny Depp and Gwyneth Paltrow bashing our country, yet still raping our wallets with the excessive cost of entertainment.

I find this bigotry and hypocrisy disgusting.

I will be happy to give you an example of bigotry gone wild. The word liberal has become a nasty insult to hurl at anyone. We see it right here on these boards all the time.

A few days ago this was taken to an extreme when a newspaper actually printed a letter to the editor calling for all liberals to be sent to the terrorists, specifically the terorists who specialize in beheadings. Can you imagine any newspaper having the nerve to print such a lettter had it been aimed at anyone but the dreaded liberals? Can you imagine anyone getting away with calling for the death of any other group?

If you want to talk about disgusting you have to look no further than this.

memo to Joe...it's not rape when you give them your money. You still have the option of refusing to spend anything on these celebrities. Kindly do not diminish the horror of rape by calling paying for entertainment by the same name. That to some people is truly disgusting.

Linda said she cannot stand that some of her fans are republican? I think I would like to see the actual quote.....not saying you are making it up, I just know how easily some things are altered by the elimination of a word or two.

"It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know." - Linda Ronstadt aka bigot

Ahhhh, liberal tolerance. What a close-minded hateful human being Linda is.

See I didn't know that Liberal was a nasty insult. (Where does one learn these things???) When I use it I'm simply using the title those who identified themselves as such used. I don't see it as a nasty insult but it would explain why I was attacked for making a post using the word. I'll remember that from now on and stick with using Dems ;)

Joe, are you very familiar with Linda Ronstadt's music? The only song I know that she sings is, "Blue Bayou" or something like that.

The reason that I ask, is that sometimes you have to put things in context. She comes from a different era than some of us do, and maybe that defines how she sees things now. Some of these people remember Viet Nam and the sentiment of the country at the time. It helps to see things like that, occasionally.:sunny:

Tori...Some of us are proud of being liberal, but it really has become a slur when used by some people (on this board and elsewhere)...They use the term with about the same sneer in their voice that a bigot does when using the n-word.

Or with the same sneer in their voice that Linda Ronstadt (or many other celebrities) uses when she denounces and belittles millions of Americans with her bigotry.

I find the most elitist people in America to be liberals. I am a 20 year old college student living in a household with an annual income under $30,000, I support gay marriage, I am a huge enviromentalist, I support affirmative action, and I am against the death penalty... So obviously I'm a Democrat? Nope. The Republican Party is the party of love and opportunity for all Americans, the American celebrity (and far left liberals) are the most elitist, hateful group of bigots currently in our great nation.

The Republican Party is against gay marriage, anti-environmentalist, anti-affirmative action, and pro death penalty....If you are ANY of the things that you say you are, well...I don't know how anybody that claims that could call themselves a Republican...particularly under THIS president...

Seriously, I'm not trying to just be difficult, but if ANY of those issues actually mattered to you, how could you possibly call yourself a Republican ?

I didn't know your can hear voices on this board.
Which part of "on this board and elsewhere" did you have a hard time with ? It was the "and elsewhere" section, huh ?

;)

Wow, Joe, you're awful quick with the judgement, name-calling, and with labeling people as hateful and close-minded. (Not that I didn't already know that about you from other posts, it just that in this particular thread you seem to be having more fun than usual throwing around all those neat-o hot button words.)

So....she didn't say Republicans or fundamentalists couldn't go her concerts. She didn't wish them ill. She just said it makes her uncomfortable. And that equals hateful in your eyes. Interesting.

I'm quick with the judgment because what she says does not take much analysis. It was hateful and mean. It does not take a genius to figure this out.

Lordy. Dude. I can't stop laughing, I'm sorry. You've got to be kidding. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Do you stereotype often? Where's the love?!

Love you say?!!! I think about the Bush Administration and I don't feel love coming from any one of them! Ok, not true, perhaps Laura Bush(she does seem nice) but that would be it. Our Commander & Chief is quite closed-minded and seems to feel that if you don't fit into his way of thinking that you are way wrong and wants to change our constitution to the way he thinks the world should be.
