Policy re:guests at your resort

What is the policy regarding brining guests to your resort? We will be at POR in September and have friends that live in the area. Would they be allowed to come visit us at the resort? Hang out at the pool?

Anyone can visit the resorts but using the pools and other things are for resort guests only.

You were very lucky then. The policy at the resorts is that the pools are only for the use of the guests of that resort (some exceptions apply for DVC). Some resorts require that every guest (including children) show their KTTW in order to access the pool area.

OP, you could always ask. Just be prepared if they say no. But your friends are free to visit with you anywhere else at your resort.

the rule is only for the main pool.

plus guests can use the arcade -rent bikes, boats and use just about everything except the main pool.

We were guests at the poly and had local family visit with us. We also asked and were told no problem and they were able to swim.

Sometimes they do allow you to have guests along at the pool, but you have to ask. And you have to ask right at the time you want to swim, as the lifeguard is the one who has the final say. They run the pool area, and they are the ones who have to handle the extra people.

You can't plan on it ahead of time. But it doesn't hurt to ask.

Your guests are welcome to visit you at the resort, eat, shop, and use recreational facilities like boat rentals and bike rentals. The one thing that would be off-limits is the pool.

You can ask the lifeguard for permission to have them join you at the pool; if it's not crowded, they may allow it. It's not the kind of thing you can clear with the front desk in advance; the lifeguard has control of the pool area and it's their call.

One thing we have done in the past is add them to the room for one night, so long as the total number of people does not exceed the occupancy of the room. Yes, there may be extra adult charges, but it's nice to have them become actual guests for the night and have full access to all the amenities. For example, my sister and I do a lot of WDW trips, and occasionally the BIL will come over for just one or two nights on the weekend, making us a party of three. So he gets added to the room for the one or two nights he's staying (extra adult fee applies) and then he can go to EMH and use the pool without going against policy.

People pay a lot to stay onsite and think it is crazy to allow non payers to use the pool. If every onsite guest brought two people it would be out of control and not fair to paying guests

As already mentioned, if the pool isn't busy, the lifeguard may very well give permission. It's only when the pool is very crowded, and people figure that 'hey, we only have 4 guests with us, no biggie' that it becomes an issue. If you have 4 resort families doing that, pretty soon the pool gets overcrowded.

But, ask and see what happens. Doesn't hurt to ask first. Just be sure to abide by whatever you're told.
