I'm having a hard time understanding a couple of things about points.... I don't mean to sound dumb BUT....

If I have 300 pts at one resort and I buy 100 pts at another, how would I book a full vacation using....say.... 250 pts. at the 100 pt resort???

Could I book the full vacation at the 100 pt resort with all the pts at the 11 month period or would I have to wait for the 7 month period???

How would I use the 300 pts at the one resort at that 2nd resort... Is that a transfer of points???

The 11 month window only applies to the points you own at that particular resort.

So, in your example, there would be several ways you could book 250 at the smaller resort.

One way, obviously, would be to wait until the 7-month window and use current year points from both resorts.

By banking and borrowing, you could bank all 100 points one year, and then at 11 months, use your banked points, current 100 point allocation, and borrow 50 points from the following year.

The third way would be to book the whole thing at the 300 point resort and then try to switch the whole thing to the other resort at 7 months. If you can't do it, at least you have lodgings.

Another way would be to book 100 points at your 100 point resort and the rest of the trip at the 300 point resort as a backup. At 7 months, you try to change, but if you are unsuccessful, you could just split your stay because you'd have the backup ressie.

At 8-11 months out, you can only use points from Resort A to book at Resort A. You cannot use Resort B points at Resort A until 7 months out. So to book that 250 point vacation at the 11-month window, you could bank all 100 points from Use Year 1 into the Use Year 2 and borrow 50 points from Use Year 3, giving you a total of 250 points to use for a vacation in Use Year 2.

Another option is to book some of your vacation nights at the 11 month window using your 100 points, and book the rest of the nights at your other resort as a back up. At 7 months try to book those nights at the first resort, and cancel your back up reservations. There is some risk here that you won't get the rest of your nights at the first resort and have to move part way through your vacation.

Another option is to use your 100 points at the 11-month window to book as many nights as you can and pay for the rest of the nights with cash.

It depends on what kind of contracts you have. If you have a 300-point master contract and a 100-point add on, then no, it's not a transfer. You can combine the points at the 7-month mark to use at any resort you wish. If these are two master contracts, then you would have to transfer points from one contract to the other.

That happens a lot here, and no doubt confuses newbies. It's just because we were both composing at the same time. I never mind it except when I read that the subsequent poster pointed out a glaring fundamental mistake in my post!
