points used from a different contract than points reserved?

I have purchased a resale contract at VWL. Everything is good to go, Disney waived the ROFR, I've sent the cashier's check for the full purchase amount. The closing agent says that as soon as she gets the final documentation from the seller, we can close and it will be 10 days to get in Disney's system.

my husband turns 60 on November 22 and I'd like to try booking a studio anywhere for M, Tu, W of that week (Thanksgiving). I know it's a long shot and want to get moving ASAP.

Here's the question....
I'm an associate member on my mother's account and have access to her points. Could I book or waitlist those days on her account (with her permission of course) and then when the contract goes through, change it to use the points in my account (they are banked 2009 points that need to get used before they go poof) instead of hers. If the contract falls through, I'll just cancel the reservation/waitlist or see if she'll let me go forward with using them.

No, since the points come from two entirely separate memberships, it would involve a cancellation and making a new reservation. As an associate you are able to make reservations, but otherwise the contracts will not be related. I'd still call and try, but in this situation MS is not likely to be able to switch points from another member's account. It would be worth a try - you'll never know until making that call to MS.

You might be OK if there is still any availability.

Good luck! :)

What you've asked is probably not going to work out : Member Services would not let you call to swap your points in for your mother's mainly because imho it would defeat owner's priority booking window although that probably doesn't come into play here because your talking a reservation less than 7 months from now; but what I am thinking is they have an obligation to member's who are waitlisted for those dates. I think what will happen when you call to do so is the reservation made with your mom's points would first be cancelled (so that reservation is as good as gone) and then you would have to book using your points, however, in the time between that cancellation and their attempt to rebook those dates with your points unfortunately those dates will most likely 'disappear' from the system likely because of other members being waitlisted for those dates (waitlisted members would have first crack at those dates).

You should have your points in your account shortly after all your resale paperwork is nearly finalized so chances are that if you call MS immediately after for reservation (or even in event you need to be waitlisted) you're chances should be good.

Best wishes :goodvibes

Thanks all....I figured it was a longshot.

We just realized when we were trying to figure out what we'd do with our 2009 points (they were banked into 2010--June use year) that DH turns 60 in November, we have our 20th anniversary this year (which we'll celebrate Valentines) and my 50th in September 2011 so that it would cool to try to take 3 trips--one for each.

I'll try to be patient...for this November, we can be anywhere and I'll be happy.

Use your Mom's points to book your reservation. When you get your points, let her use them for her next reservation or you can transfer points between the two of you.

Thanks all....

I ended up following Bill's recommend....and a good thing.
My husband's 60th is the Monday of Tgiving week--I was hoping to go down for MTW, leaving on Thursday.

Anyhow..there were several studios available for M/T but there was nothing onsite for all 3 days except a 1BR at Saratoga Springs.

We ended up with a savannah view at AKL for M/T and waitlisted W.
We also W/L for all 3 at a SS studio.

No downside in my book...2 days at one of our favorite resorts or 3 days at one we've never given a fair shot! And now that I know we'll be there I can move on with dinner plans and a tour!
