Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone can help, i have had 2 offers now of a points transfer to help us for our July 2010 trip but on both occasions it has fallen down when the owner has phoned MS to double check that they can transfer.

The first occasion from how i understand they were told that the UY was wrong - our UY is Dec.

Yesterday our second offer fell flat when the owner was told that it could only be done if adding to an existing reservation??

I am getting a bit confused by all this and any help would be much appreciated. I have rented once before to a lovely lady and it was so simple, the only reason i would prefer a transfer is that our home resort is AKV but we are keeping fingers crossed that we might be able to also have a few days at BCV and possibly THV during our 3 wk trip.

Many thanks hope someone can help, i am so looking forward to our first DVC trip home since purchase but this is a real stumbling block at the moment:confused3

The front line MS personnel are “marginally trained” in transfers and very frequently apply incorrect rules.

Use years do not have to match.

Transferring points has nothing to do and is not dependent on making a reservation (you can even let the points expire if you are so inclined).

Call MS and explain the problems you have had and confirm that what the people you were dealing with were told was wrong (75% of the time I have done transfers initially the wrong information was given by the MS person and a supervisor had to handle the transaction or I was passed to a MS person with more experience in this area) and request a supervisor if you continue to get erroneous information.

In fairness to the front line MS personnel there is no written manual for transfers and I believe each only does a few per year.

Here is where the use year confusion comes into play. Use "years", not use months, have to match. With a December use year, you are currently in your 2008 use year. Most members are in their 2009 use year. You can not transfer 2009 use year points into an account that is in their 2008 use year. Someone with an October or December use year can transfer into your 2008 use year. Someone with a February, March, April, June, August or September use year can transfer into your 2009 use year.

Not to be disagreeable (I was told the same thing initially) but you can transfer 2008 or 2010 points into your account (as long as they are in the eligible range for the person initiating the transfer) when you are in your 2009 use year (for example). This was confirmed through a set of supervisors and the QA department. They retain there initial UY and month.

I have done this personally after MS messing it up initially (they transferred the persons 2009 point into my account and had to reverse it and move their 2008 point into my account (during my 2009 use year).

What point can be transferred are completely governed by the transferring party and are in no way governed by the receiving party (except that they must be current on dues and have not done a transfer for that UY.

Hi guys

Thanks for the info, do you think the best action would be to phone MS and explain what has happened and see what they say. I feel a bit like i have lost out twice now and it may not have needed to be that way. I am still very confused why they woud say that unless a transfer is added to an existing reservation it isn't allowed.:guilty:

thanks

I am subbing in here because I would like to know as well. Bumbleink, I don't mean to hijack the thread....:goodvibes

My friend has left over points in her June 2009-May 2010 use year. I would like for her to transfer those points to my April 2010-Mar 2011 use year for a trip in April 2010.

SO at time of reservation her use year is not up and I will be using my new Use year points that I get Apr 1. Can we do that?

If we can't, Can I do it if I change my reservation for lets say Feb 2010? Then she would still be in her use year, but now I would have to borrow from my April 1st 2010 points to make the reservation for Feb 2010.

Also, what does that mean for us using our "one only" transfer? Does that mean I can still transfer in or out in our Use Year of April 2010-Mar 2011?:confused3

Cmbar,

The points you transfer in will not be transferred in to your 2010 use year, they will remain June 2009 UY points in your account. They will be fine for an April 2010 reservation without banking. Just be aware that from Feb. 1 on they cannot be banked and if the reservation were cancelled you would have loose them on June 1.

Yes if you want a Feb reservation the transferred in points would be fine but if you have do not have any 2009 point of your own left then you would have to borrow from your 2010 points with the same issue with cancellations and your points expiring April 1

Thank you. Now do you know how this transfer would affect my allowable transfers? For instance since it would go into my 2009 allotment could I get another transfer in Apr 2010 to Mar 2011? Thanks!

If they are 2009 points that are being transferred in then that would use up your 1 transferring transaction for 2009 points.

You could get another transfer the same day (or any other time) as long as they were valid points for the person to transfer to you and they were not 2009 points, same goes for you transfering out.
