Does anyone buy some of the cheaper points from VB or HH just to have extra points to book at their home resort? For example, if I have VB points that would be at the 7 month window when my AKL UY is at 11 months.......couldn't I combine them at that time to book?

VB and HH have pretty high annual maintenance fees so should be taken into consideration. Sleep around points seems to be better value with SSR thought I haven’t calculated it since the price increase.

You can only combine if the reservation date is 7 months or less out.

And I wouldn't call VB or HHI cheaper points. Really depends on your end goal, but I would not buy VB or HHI to try and book at WDW resorts. But if you trying to book at Aulani on the other hand, most 7 months reservations works great if you are flexible to unit types and views, but that's a different topic altogether.

Great3

There is no way to use anything at AKV except AKV from 7 to 11 months from the check in date.

It doesn’t matter what UY points are since that doesn’t impact booking. The only thing VB and HH points can do is help you extend an AKV booking at 7 months for rooms still available.

As others have said I don't know if I'd suggest getting VB or HHI for SAP (sleep around points). They may have low price per point but both resorts have some of the highest maintenance fees out of them all. SSR is probably the best for SAP with it's still fairly low price per point and lower maintenance fees.

I'd agree about the high MF's at HHI and VB. I like SSR for sleep around points.

I have considered buying HHI or maybe VB points, but it is because I'm interested in being able to book there split stay on my WDW trips. I have considered using the excess points at my home resort since I mostly book 1 bedroom villas at SSR and BLT and others which are not too hard to get at 7 months.

I think you are both saying the same thing, just differently lol
That's why I deleted the post. I guess I was saying depending on your travel habits, you don't even need to have AKV points to book rooms within the 7 month window. Depending on time of year obviously.

As others stated UY doesn't matter for the 7 month window, only the start of the reservation. The other thing is, if you plan to combine AKL and VB points at 7 months, you definitely would want to buy the same UY. Otherwise you'd have to go through some rigamaroll like transfer to make a reservation using both.

I booked short stays at VB and HHI last trip using points from my home resorts to see if I was interested in them. You might want to do that as well, see if you want to stay there at all. I warmed to the idea of buying points at one or the other after staying there, although I haven't made up my mind yet. Partly I'm not sure which one suits me better, and I don't think I plan to buy at both. Although I lean toward HHI, because it is closer to home and harder to book at 7 months I think.

If you can get your hands on a VB subsidized contract, wouldnt be a terrible idea. Not sure how cheap those go for resale though and I dont think there are a ton of them around either. Same goes for AUL, a sub contract there is actually the cheapest MF per point you can get.
