Can someone clarify when your points are available for use?

If you purchase from Disney and the use year is Sept 05, can you make a reservation before Sept, 05.

For example, if we need March 7,06 for one week and want to take advantage of our 11 month window, if the points are not available until Sept, what is the good of the 11 month window for this year?

Is this how it works or can we borrow before the points are even available?

I am confused?

Or should we be looking at a resale with Apr date?

We bought our points in Nov.'04. We have a June use year, with our points becoming available June '05. We pay no payments or dues until we can use our points. We were not able to use them for anything before June. We were able to make ressies for our 11 month booking window, as long as our trip was AFTER June. So, no you are not able to use your points until Sep. but you will not have to pay dues until then either. Also if you finance through them you don't make any payments till Sept. Think of it as a way to get into DVC before the price increase. And yes, you can make your ressie for March '06 at your 11 month window.

Your Use Year is determined at the time you purchase your ownership interest in a Disney Vacation Club Resort and marks the time each year when you receive a new allotment of Vacation Points. It affects when you can bank and borrow Vacation Points, and sets the deadline for certain vacation decisions.

Home Resort Priority
Your Disney Vacation Club Membership allows you the privilege and flexibility to reserve accommodations at your Home Resort as far as 11 months in advance of your check-out date.


What you need to know about Home Resort Priority:


All reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis.
You have exclusive access to request reservations using your Home Resort Vacation Points at your Home Resort 11 to eight months in advance of the check-out date. If, at a later date, you wish to use Vacation Points from another Disney Vacation Club Resort, you cannot "switch out" the Vacation Points.
You may request reservations at all other Disney Vacation Club Resorts as far as seven months before your check-out date.
In order to take advantage of the Home Resort Priority, all Vacation Points being used to make the reservation must be associated with your Home Resort.

Your points are tracked by the use year. A reservation made April '05 for a reservation March '06 comes from the September '05 use year. It looks like those points aren't there when you make the ressie, but they are tracked as if they are.

I think this is a point that confuses most new members. People picture the points only being deposited into their account when the use year starts. Actually, they are already there for all your future use years. Your date of stay governs what points you can use. Your September 2005 points would already be there and be available for stays 9/1/05 to 8/31/06. They could also be borrowed for stays 9/1/04 to 8/31/05. So actually those points could have been borrowed to make a home resort reservation at the 11 month mark for 9/1/04 back in October 2003, long before the use year started.

Wait, now I'm confused. When we purchased at SSR in Nov. we were told we couldn't borrow any points because our contract hadn't closed yet. So, we purchased in Nov'04. We were told we would probably close in May. Our use year is June'05 and that is when we will be able to use our points. In April'05 I was able to book our Nov'05 trip using our 11 month window at SSR. We were also able to make a ressie at Vero for June'05 in Dec'04. We were in the system to book almost right away. But, like I said, no payments until June'05 when we could actually use our points.

So, in the OP's situation, buying points now at SSR with points coming/use year of Sept'05, can not borrow because the contract won't close until probably August? But, once they purchase they can make a ressie at SSR 11 months out and at the other resorts 7 months out, as long as that 7/11 month mark is after Sept'05.

That is how I understand it to be and how we were told it is. Now a resale is totally different.

SSR is a little different because you bought into a building that is not complete yet, so different rules apply the first year. My post was regarding points use in general, in an existing resort.

That's what I thought, but then I thought maybe, I'm wrong!LOL Thanks! Also I wanted to add that I meant to say I booked in April'05 for BWV, not SSR at the 7 month window. I never utilized the 11 month window, yet!
