Points in holding

Can some one explain how these work. We plan on sharing some points with my parents but they are notorious for having to cancel close to travel for health reason. Just need to understand what happens.

If you cancel less than 31 days before arrival your points for that booking go into holding. Holding points can be booked at 60 days out and they expire at the end of your use year. You cannot bank points that have gone into holding.

What does the 60 day booking mean, do they ave to wait 60 days to book again?

So if we have a dec uy and they cancelled a November trip we would basically lose those points since the uy ends at the f November, but if the cancelled a January trip we would have almost a year to use them???

It means you can't book a trip with those points MORE than 60 days before the trip date.

Yes, but doing it late in your UY is, as you surmised, much worse than doing it near the beginning.
