Check this out:

The whole thing is fishy. First of all, the seller has a "0" rating. Second of all, he worded his listing very strangely, on the one hand saying he's "selling" his points and giving a (false) comparison price, then he implies that he's actually renting them and that they're available until October 2003.

The final, and most disturbing, problem is that he gave a false email address! I tried to ask him a question and my email came back as undeliverable.

I noticed that he's not SquareTrade certified, which all people selling travel on ebay are supposed to be now.

I agree, it is very strange.

On the other hand, if he's on the level, $1200 isn't bad to rent 179 points. I'd want a little more information first! Diana

And the last time I was in Florida, my DVC unit was located near "Orlando", not "Olando".

whoever posted that the points for sale was misleading is right. He does not even sound like he knows what he is talking about. Beware to buyer !!!

Misleading is right. $80.00 to members and more for non-members? I wasn't aware that as members we got a discount on the purchase of Disney points. ;)

Yup, saw that too. Very odd. And very funny that we've all seen it. A little obsessed here, aren't we? ;) (BTW, my 3 Ebay "favorite searches" that I get emails about are "Disney Vacation Club", "Boardwalk Villas", and "Mickey Mouse Soccer". :teeth: )

I agree - this looks fishy. The seller is either very confused about his ownership or is trying to defraud someone. I sent an alert to Ebay asking that they look into it, so we'll see what happens.

Ebay may do something about this since they've got different rules for ebay travel now. But I sent them a notice once about someone who was obviously trying to defraud someone (at Christmas time, no less) and they sent back this boiler plate email about how they couldn't do anything about it, they just provided the bidding platform, etc. It really pissed me off because sure enough, this guy ripped off two people to the tune of about $500.

MaryAnnDVC, you're going to increase the competition for us all! Shhhhh!!! ;)

Being the curious sort, I took a look at the eBay ad to see what everyone was referring to. The page now says "This item is closed." I am not familiar with eBay. Does that mean it sold, or the seller withdrew the item, or that maybe eBay shut it down?

Like I said, I'm just curious! ;)

I'm not real Ebay savvy, but it looks to me like it was either shut down by Ebay or the seller withdrew it...I've never sold on Ebay...I just buy :teeth:...so I don't know if and how you can end your own auction. There is no winning bidder listed, and also I noticed that the start and end times of the auction are different...the auctions I've seen start and end at the same time.

Anyone else know any more than I do (since I don't know a heck of alot!)?

It looks like time ran out:

Ends Sep-22-02 19:48:36 PDT

All e-bay auctions have an start and end time. I checked some other auctions, they are usually a few days apart.

You have your choice of how many days you want your auction to run, which means the TIME should be the same...if your auction starts on Sept 10 at 1:55 and it's a 10 day auction, then it will end on Sept 20 at 1:55. This auction started and ended at different times.

Started Sep-19-02 08:50:54 PDT

Ends Sep-22-02 19:48:36 PDT

It appears that the auction was interrupted.

The winner may have used the Buy it Now feature. Since down at the bottom the list what the buyer and seller must do.

Oh geez, I didn't even see that there was a seller listed...also with "0" feedback?? I thought with "Buy it now" that it says something like "the auction has ended with the buy it now feature" and still lists the winner at the top.

This has drifted far from a DVC topic and has run it's course. If anyone wishes to continue a discussion about ebay practices, please do so on the Community Board.

Thanks!
