I understand that the going rate to rent points is $10/point. My question is if it costs more to buy points these days (Compared to the beginning), why has the "rental" rate stayed constant? It seems that as the price to buy a point has gone up, the price to rent one should have as well.

Any thoughts?

The going rate on these boards is $10 and even more or less. However the going rate for my rentals has been $12.50. It is quite easy to get a better rate for your points by renting off these boards. Anyone renting at $10 a points is losing money if they look at their cost realistically.

Points can only be rentad at an amount that other people are willing to pay vs. paying cash. $12.50 per point for a Sun-Thur stay in a studio in May works out to be around $162.00 per night (will fluctuate given a particular season, resort ect....) Often with a discount code a person can get the same room - even larger (2 queens vs. studio) for around the same price with the ammenities of the regular resort - housekeeping etc...

If renting points isn't a savings or a value, than it makes no sense for people to rent them vs. paying cash. If you can't use your points I don't see where it matters what someone rents them for - at least you'd get some of the cost back instead of losing the points completely. And as long as its a reasonable rate people will pay it. If people just rent points to recoop costs - it seems to be risky way of doing it.
