Point Reallocation Question For The Experts

I have a trip planned for next month on 2004 UY points. I'm thinking of booking another trip in January 2005 by borrowing points from next (2005) UY.

Now, I know the September trip is going to happen, but the January trip could be canceled for some reason. I would like to rearrange my points in the reservations so that Sept 04 trip uses the borrowed points. That way if I have to cancel January 05 I could bank the points (subject to my window of course).

I ran this all by someone at member services and they said I couldn't do it without canceling my September reservation and rebooking it and that there was no equivalent available (BWV 1B Std) rooms so therefore I can't reallocate in this way.

Is this right? If so I don't see how anyone could ever reallocate points then...

The way I understand it, that is the way it works. They have to completely start the reservation over.

They would have to cancel then rebook and if that time is sold out, you lose your reservation. They shouldn't just substitute the points in the situation because it's not fair to the other members.
