First I have to say I love this web site, it is addictive. I am usually in bed by 9pm and since I have found this site I'm up until 11-12.
Please help me to understand the whole point process, can anyone purchase them, where can you use them, average number of points required for a room? We will be coming down for Disney land/sea Feb 11 but our pkg doesn't start until Feb 13. We are 2 families, each with 2 adults and 2 children. Are we appropriate candiates for "points"? Please advise. Thank-you

I'm too new to give any "advice" - there are others here who will do that!

I just wanted to say "Welcome to the DisBoards!" to another Mainer! :)

Angela, you should read through the faq at the top of the DVC forum..it will explain in better detail the basics of DVC.

However, the short 1 sentence summary of DVC is:

A points based timeshare owned by Disney that is primarily useful to people who need to visit Mr. Mouse more often than is probably healthy for our financial situations and stay in accomodations that are superior to most other Disney properties and that also include kitchens (or mini-kitchens), regardless if you actually do any cooking because, well, you're on vacation dang it!. :)

Removing tongue from cheek, DVC is a timeshare of disney based properties (as well as Hilton Head Island and Vero Beach) that uses a point system to allocate 'ownership' interests. Though many people use the concept of 'renting' points from DVC owners to stay in a DVC resort, the DVC's primary focus is for Disney fans who visit frequently (at least once every other year) and who desire rooms that are nicer than most (all?) of the moderate resorts, at prices that are much less costly (over the long haul).

Read through the faq, but based on the brief note you posted, I don't know if you'd be a candidate for DVC ownership or not.

I hope this helps,
Joe

If you are taking a Disney Cruise they usually have a brief introduction to DVC during one of the days at sea. The sales staff does not do any pushing to get you to buy. If you say no that would be the end of their sales pitch. You can also visit any DVC booth at the parks and set up a tour of the Villas. They usually offer a perk if you buy after doing a tour.

Echoing wahoomedic on the "no push" sale presentation. You can't get more low key than their presentations. Actually, the product sells itself. I'd definitely take in at least 1 presentation before buying - we did a lot of listening, then had intelligent questions to ask, then asked DVC members on the cruise questions, then we bought (HH)

To the Maine residents - I lived in Presque Isle for 2 years and worked for then Representative Snowe. Best job I ever had and the experience made up for the minimum wage pay! What an education about the government! This was back when George Mitchell and Bill Cohen were Senators. A long time ago!

Anyway, we didn't know about this DIS Board or resales before we initially bought. If I had to do it over, I'd probably have gone straight resale - as we just did for our VWL.

Good luck in getting information and making your decision, I hope it will be soon that we can say "welcome home" to you also!

Rae

Just wanted to say hi! to fellow Mainers!! I'm originally from Windham, if fact Mom, Dad and all the extended family are still there!

I know what you mean about these boards being addictive. I never used the internet for fun before DH introduced me to the DISBoards.
