A two night stay for 2 people in the new Star Wars Hotel costs at its lowest $4809. Since Disney values points for exchanges at around $7-9pp, a galactic cruise could cost around 601 points.
Very convenient! By comparison, you can book "just" a month and a half in a DVC studio.

Disclaimer: no exchange has been announced and possibly won't. This is just for fun.

You forgot to add these would need to be " blue card" points.

I wouldn't be the least shocked if they do allow points to be exchanged in and that they HAD to be direct blue card purchased points with no grandfathering allowed.

Grandfathered points are always treated like direct points. That can't change.
Resale points purchased before 2011 were grandfathered in 2011 to allow booking exchanges into Disney hotel or cruises. Resale points purchased after that first round of restriction cannot book those. We were grandfathered when the following restrictions were introduced: I have zero direct points but I have a blue card. Yet, I cannot book a Disney Memners cruise or use points for a Disney hotel.

I am going to have to disagree with you on that, there is nothing stating they are required to do so. it is more than just a hotel it is an experience so they can create a new category which then they can exclude grandfathered points.

I don't even like Star Wars. But if DVC added some Star Wars points, I'd sell everything and buy that.

I doubt it does any kind of exchange for years. This will be a tough booking at any price.

I was talking about the 2011limitations.

This would directly conflict with the marketing material for many, many years that pitched all the future resorts.

I'd argue they could make a whole new "club" that may or may not play nicely with DVC. And just because you can book at the new hotel doesn't mean it's a good deal. We will see, I guess. RIV has made it clear that they will keep grabbing cash.

I just can't imagine that they'd exclude grandfathered members ,it would help them to have people burn points.

Unfortunately it is all about the Benjamins with Disney nowadays.

If it was considered part of the Disney collection, they could not exclude trading to grandfathered points.

But, if they make it is own category of trade, then maybe, But, honestly, I don’t see them doing that because the number of owners who would actually trade who are grandfathered with points is most likely small.

My first thought was: Is there a Stowaway Class? Standard steerage class buys a week in a bungalow!

I shared the pricing with DH, and his reaction was: The waitlist for standard rooms would be years! Can we afford a 2BR?

That's normal person vs true SW fan I guess.

Like the way your husband thinks, I do ! <(-_-)>
Yes, as a StarWars fan, I think I will try to find 3 other diehards, and go as a foursome.
And, under that scenario, would spring for the higher room category. :goodvibes

Grandfathered, legally, would mean points inherited. Any points bought resale prior to 2011,( kind of a guess), are still considered blue card, it was after Disney caught on to how much cheaper resale points were, and that they weren't making a dime, they put restrictions, which they had every right to do, as much as we hate it, LOL.
I do have a question, hope I didn't miss it answered. So lets say I have 250 pts through Disney, then I use say 50 points at resale, do those 50 still get blue card benefits when I book a room using those 50, plus a Disney 50? I would think they would have to be and since we pick which contract. Is that clear?

You mean if you book a room for 100 points, and 50 points come from a resale (white card) contract and 50 from a direct (or otherwise blue card) contract? I would think that for the rare occasions when that matters (such as booking an event that requires a resort reservation booked with blue card points), that should qualify. Using other blue card benefits (discounts) has nothing to do with whether you have a reservation or not, and staying at a DVC resort will qualify anyone for the evening extra hours, so I can't think of any other reason where it would matter whether you combined blue card and white card points for a stay. Maybe someone else can think of one.

Well, there's the excluded resorts. So your white card points don't work at Riviera.

Yes, I wasn't thinking about actually booking the room itself. You're right, @LPnerd couldn't combine resale points with direct points to book Riviera (unless the resale points were at RIV).

If you wanted to book at RIV , then that is a hard no. Only points that are blue card eligible can be used at RIV or any future resort.
