I came on this site a few days ago and discovered there was a change in the point chart for OKW and other DVC properties. It was a surprise to me because I never saw anything from DVC about the change. What it amounts to for me is about a 19 percent increase in the cost of staying at OKW. I usually stay In a one bedroom in January for 5 days which costs 80 points. It now goes to 95 points to do the same. Over all there appears to be a major shift in the points required to stay on weekends verses weekdays. The weekend is a lot cheaper now and the week days have gone up in price. I was just wondering what the company line was regarding this major change. I saw nothing about this from DVC yet. Thanks to this site I found out about this change.

There's a long thread which I'm sure you'll be directed to and this one closed. It's been on the website for some time. Presumably this is an attempt to increase weekend demand/usage compared to weekdays which I'm sure it'll do, the question is whether it'll be enough to even it out or will another future change be needed. Those like us who normally stay 5 days avoiding weekends will be affected the most. The largest change they could have made was 20% for any given night.

I'm glad to see this change. I hated having to avoid the weekends because of the uneven manner in which points were allocated. Hotels don't operate that way, and except to guard against locals monopolizing weekend days, there was no reason for DVC to operate that way, AFAIC.

Thanks Dean, I will wait to be directed to the thread. I haven't been on this site since October so I missed a lot. There is no way of getting around the cost increase unless you just come for weekends then there will be a big drop in costs, they must be trying to get the locals to come and stay more often.

Resorts often charge more on the weekends, but not as much as DVC did with their points. I know there must be some out their where this is an advantage, but for me and many others who for years have been coming for 5 days it is really a shocker. Of course if you stay for 7 days there really isn't any change to speak of at least not at OKW.
