Point Calc for Cruise

Is there a way to calculate how many points you need for a cruise? I recently rented points for OKW and a friend of mine would like to rent points for Vero or a Cruise. I know that Vero is a possiblity, but I cannot figure out how to calculate how many points a family of two adults and three children would need for a 4 day cruise. Can someone help?

You may likely find a better rate by booking a cruise directly than thru a DVC rental.

Points for a cruise range from 84 points for a Category 11 stateroom in low season to a high of 241 for a Category 4 room during a Holiday period. This is per person.

Children's point costs range from 15-108 points depending on age of the child and date of the cruise. A combination of points and cash may be used, but that will require payment in full at time of booking for the cash portion.

If you are interested in renting a cruise from a member, just post the dates, stateroom type and numer/ages of all in your party and see if someone can help.

Renting points for a cruise is not very economical. If you were to pay $10 each for the points, it would more often than not be cheaper to pay cash for the cruise.

there are two options for a family of 5 - a Catagory 4 or two adjoining staterooms of a lower catagory (for example Cat 10). Point values change based on the Catagory and the season. I will give you an example of a 4 day cruise in a Cat 4 and two Cat 10s during the Summer. (This is based on the assumption that the kids are between 3-12)

Cat 4 = 615 points

Two Cat 10s = 529 points.

Thanks for your replies. I had wrongly assumed that since I saved money through renting points at a resort that my friend would save money on her cruise. She will be dissappointed, but she will appreciate the information. Maybe they will look closer at Vero Beach now. Thanks again.
