Point borrowing question :)

Here is the situation. We are using our 2005/06 points December and our 2006/2007 points for our trip in 2006. My father was recently diagnosed with cancer and only given a short time to live. We have decided to take the family to WDW in February 2006 for what maybe our last family trip. My question is about borrowing into my 2006 and 2007 points. When will I be able to first borrow my December 2007/2008 points? I really don't want to add on currently especially since this will not be our regular travel points. I do want to go to WDW in Spring of 2007 and can skip 2008. Wow these dates sound like so far off, but I really wanted to know where I stand in taking this trip in February 2006.

I believe you can borrow your next year's points for any trip after your use year begins.

So you have a December use year? If you already banked points, you can use 2005 points for the trip (the ones you got in December 2004).

If not, you can use all your 2006 points (that you'll get in December) and your 2007 points (from December 2006).

You can't use the points you'll get in December 2007 unless it's for a trip after December 2006.

I hope it works out! If you are short points, post on the rental board! Someone might be able to rent or trade points with you.

It sounds as though you have a December Use Year. Assuming none have been banked from your Dec04 UY or already borrowed from Dec05 UY, you will have a full compliment of points on Dec 1, 2005 (these are your Dec05 points) and they may be used for a reservation bewteen 12/01/05 and 11/30/06. For reservations during that same time period you can borrow points from your Dec06 UY. Points can only be borrowed when actually making a reservation- so borrowing may be done 11 months ahead of the reservation or anytime they are needed for a reservation during the prior Use Year. In your case, your Dec,2006 Use Year points can be borrowed for a reservation between 12/01/05 and 11/30/06 if needed.

For a trip in February, 2006 - the points can be from 3 sources- banked points from your Dec04 UY, points from your Dec05 UY or borrowed from your Dec06 UY.

Your Dec 07 UY points could be borrowed for a trip between 12/01/06 and 11/30/07 but are not accessible for a trip prior to 12/01/06.

Point usage is always governed by the Use Year itself (Use Year is the date the points may be used from your account - in this case December 1 each year.)

Thanks you are correct the use year is December. So with that the last question I have is about this statement

Can I use the 7/ 11 month window to make reservations prior to 12/1/06. Say my reservation is for March 2007. Can I call 7 months prior to make a reservation or do I have to wait until 12/1/2006?

All reservations are subject to the appropriate reservation prioities (11 months or 7 months).

As long as you will have access to the points at the time of the reservation (with borrowing, that will be the case), you may make any reservation as soon as your priority allows.

For a trip in February 2006, you can use banked 12/04 points, current 12/05 points, borrowed 12/06 points. You cannot borrow 2007 points unless the trip date is 12-1-06 or after. When you make the reservation has nothing to do with which use years are available, it is all based on the date of stay.
