point accumulation question (use year)

if i buy 200 pts on october 15th 2008,will i have 200 pts immediatly? and if i dont use them, on that same date in 2009 will i have 400 pts? thanx in advance.

It will depend on a few things...

First - Where you buy. If you buy at the AKV you will be buying Kidani Village points and won't get them until Kidani opens in May. If you are buying them at any other DVC resort then you will probably get them right away.

Second - Use Year. You will have a Use Year that is dictated by a month and it is like a Fiscal Year. For example, we have an October Use Year. That means that on 10/1 every year we get that year's allotment of points and, unless used or banked, they expire on 9/30 of the next year. So you won't get your points on 10/15 every year, even if you buy on 10/15. You'll get them on the first of the month of your Use Year. It is good to pick a Use Year (if given a choice) that is a month or two before when you usually travel. That way you aren't traveling at the end of your Use Year and won't have the issue of having to use up points for unexpectedly canceled reservations.

Third - If you get this year's points and don't plan to use them you will need to bank them into your '09 Use Year within the first 6 months of your Use Year. If you do not do this they will have to be used by the end of your '08 Use Year or they will expire. If you bank them into your 2009 Use Year they will have to be used before the first day of your '10 UY or they will expire, but you will be able to use '08's and '09's points together before that date.
