Is it open now? Has anyone stayed there since the renovations? How is it? How big are the rooms?

Rooms are 314 sq feet and the resort area is due to open, I believe, March 17th. I suspect that there will be lots of pictures and chatter when the area reopens.

These roooms are not that large, as they contain two double beds or 1 king, two sinks in a vanity area which is separate from the tub and commode.

Smoking rooms are in Bldgs 2 and 4 and the top of Bldg 6, so these may be, depending upon your preference, buildings to avoid.

Rates are great with a new Disney Visa card for May through, I believe July or August - std room for about $95 (inlcued tax); otherwise, you can get an AAA rate for about $122 (including tax) - whcih is also pretty good.

We'll be there from 05/02 through 05/08, so, we're looking forward to checking thins out first hand.

Does anyone have info about the food court? Is the sit down restaurant going to reopen?

the sit down restaurant was closed in aug of 2000 and Im fairly sure its staying closed

It opens on March 21st. I am scheduled to stay there the week it reopens. I'll post thoughts as soon as I return.

We're staying there May 7-12 at POFQ and when I was on the phone with the CRO, I asked if the sit down full service restaurant will be open, and he put me on hold to check and he said "Yes, it will be open." He mentioned the name of that restaurant, but now I forgot what he said. Can't wait!!

I really hope the sit down restaurant is open. I believe the name was Bonfamille's

I just called dinning, and asked them directly if it would open when the resort reopened.
The CM put me on hold and after 15 or so mins. came back and said that they have nothing to indicate that is is going to open at that time or any other time.
So one of the CMs are wrong(I hope it was the CM I talked to).
Oh well its not that much of a walk to POR.
Does anyone have anything to say about the one at POR.?
I have heard mixed feeling about it.

I have not heard anything about the sit down restaurant reopening.

Fantasia, does the name Boatwrights sound familiar? That is the sit down restaurant over at the Riverside section. Since they consider both sides one resort, the call Boatwrights the sit down restaurant for the French Quarter as well.

Does the food court at POFQ offer any cajun or New Orleans type foods???

Boy I sure hope that sit down restaurant reopens! That would be awesome!! ::yes::

OK I just couldnt say at POP Century even though I have read great reviews. I need my hot spa and pool slide. :guilty: I admit I just upgraded to POFQ for 1st 4 nights of our 14 night WDW stay in April. The rest will be at the Polynesian. Me and my kids love to swim and POP c pool seems no better than the pool at our local sports centre that we visit weekly.

Yes, they do serve some cajun and creole foods at the food court. They have muffaletta sandwiches all the time, and for the evening specials they have had jambalaya and other creole dishes. They also serve red beans and rice and an excellent gumbo. But the best New Orleans food they have are the begniets !! Excellent !! As close to the real thing as you can get. We get some every night to take back to the room. Enjoy !

Remembering Bonfamille's (sp?) makes me smile. Years ago we stayed at Riverside and went over to Port Orleans FQ for breakfast. It was good, but my Dad ordered a "cajun" omelette that he STILL raves about. What I remember is that the thing had a crawfish or crawdad or whatever you call them -- to me they are like roaches -- sitting on top of it! GROSS... My Mom and I were horrified. We swore the thing waslooking at us! Anyhow, my Dad still laments that he can't return there for another crawfish omelette. To each his own! Maybe they really will reopen.

Colleen, that was yucky! I have eaten at Bonfamilles many times before it closed and loved it. It was such a nice quiet out of the way place. I've been doing a little research on the employee web site and according to it, they have no plans to reopen Bonfamilles.

Here's a little of some of the facts I looked up:

Historical Notes:
· On March 1, 2001, the transformation of Disney's Dixie Landings Resort and Disney's Port Orleans Resort into one resort began with changes to road signage in and around the two resorts. Disney's Port Orleans Resort and Disney's Dixie Landings Resort will complete the transformation process and officially merge to form a single resort on April 1, 2001. The combined resort will be called Disney's Port Orleans Resort with the area, formerly known as Disney's Port Orleans Resort, changing its name to the French Quarter region, and the area, formerly known as Disney's Dixie Landings Resort, changing its name to the Riverside region.
· Bonfamille's Cafe, the full-service restaurant that was located in what is now called the French Quarter region (formerly known as Disney's Port Orleans Resort), closed its doors on August 6, 2000 (at end of operating hours on August 5, 2000). Full-service dining at the combined resort known as Disney's Port Orleans Resort is available at Boatwright's Dining Hall in the Riverside region (formerly known as Disney's Dixie Landings Resort).
