POFQ, Will I Be Dissapointed After POR??

We have stayed at POR twice within the last year and loved it!! Really. The first time in Mansions and I thought it couldn't get any better than the next time we stayed in Alligator Bayou and that was even better!

My question is, we are going in April and am thinking about POFQ just for something different, to try another Disney resort (I know they are connected) and I was wondering if we will be dissapointed? I love the idea of everything being close, but I have a 17 year old son that will be with us and I am afraid it will not be enough "fun" regarding the smaller arcade, smaller food court, only one pool...

Please I am really torn over this. I love POR but maybe I will love POFQ even more :earboy2: then again maybe it will be "too small" if that's possible. Any information regarding those of you who have stayed at both can share would be ever so appreciated! Oh by the way this would be for spring break April 6-13 for $122 (incl. tax).

I don't think you will be disappointed, but your son might. It is more little kid friendly for sure. Food court is good, but small and crowded when we walked over there. We saw lots more little kids there than POR. If you find that you get there and are disappointed, you can always ask to move to POR. If they have room, you should be able to do that.

We recently stayed at POR and also LOVED it!! But I was curious about POFQ, so I took an 8 minute walk over there to look. I didn't like how the pool area was exposed to the river at POFQ. I felt that POR had a better atmosphere. Also, the food court was very much like a small cafeteria. POR is much better, maybe because of the high ceiling and had a better maintained drink area. I also didn't like how POFQ had bright decor, it must be the Mardi Gras theme.

I've stayed at both, and I liked the POFQ better. I loved the decor at the POFQ, and I liked how small and compact the resort is.
I'm not sure what lovetotravel is talking about the the pool area being exposed to the river.
It looks close on the maps, but really it was not like you can see the pool from the river, it was far enough away from the river.
I did like the food court at the POR better, there was a better refrigerated selection at the POR. But there was a nice selection at the POFQ.
During the busier season I liked being at the POFQ better because the buses stopped there first. Many times the buses were pretty full at the POFQ so that the people at the POR had to stand.

I have never stayed at POR, but we loved POFQ. It is a beautiful resort. We liked the fact that everything was very close and we really enjoyed just strolling around. We also liked the fact that the buses stopped there first. I, personally, did not like the fact that POR was so spread out when we drove through to look at it. That's just my semi-uneducated opinion.

We've stayed in both - loved both. Prefered the decor at POR (mansions) but liked the pool and food court better at POFQ. Sure the food court is smaller, but it wasn't crowded when we went, and it had plenty of variety. If your son is 17 I bet he's old enough to hop on the boat of take a walk over to POR for the bigger arcade or the other marina activities. We did that one night. Both are great resorts - you really can't go wrong

Emme -

We have stayed at both POR and POFQ, too - and you are right about the arcade - DS was in heaven at POR, but then, he was younger when we were at POFQ and our stay was shorter. Your DS can walk or ride on over to POR for an arcade, as a previous poster suggested.

I think I like the food court at Riverside slightly better, also the grounds - BUT - it is twice the size and takes a long walk to the food courts and even the pool if you're in the Mansions. DS got lost one night in the dark at POR coming back to the room - and I am embarrassed to say I got lost not once but TWICE at POR!!! I do like the smaller size at POFQ and the beignets, well, what more can I say???

Both are great - I like to try different resorts, so that's my .02!

I have stayed at both. I prefer POR (mansions - never stayed in Alligator Bayou). Did not like the theming of POFQ. The pool will appeal to young kids (dragon slide). I have a 17 year old son and he wouldn't want to walk or ride a boat to the other resort to get to the better arcade. Have you considered CSR or CBR? CSR has two arcades and a pretty big pool There are quiet pools there too. There are quite a few threads with info on CSR and lots of pictures too! Good luck with your decision! Deciding where to stay is tough! Oh - BTW we stayed at POP last Dec and I couldn't get my 60+ yr father, my then 16 year DS and 12 yr DD out of the arcade! They went straight there after the parks!

We are in the same situation but reversed. We usually stay at POFQ but wanted to try something different, but still have the boat to DD, so decided to book our March/April trip at POR. We have requested a room in the AB section with a trundle. I am really torn and hope we did the right thing as we love POFQ. My kids love the size, the pool, food court, and the grounds of POFQ. We have stayed there 3 times and decided after walking over to POR and looking around we would stay there. The boats, food court, pool and grounds look really nice and we are hoping that we don't get a room that is a hike to everything. I figure that we are a WDW so any resort will be great!

I recently stayed at POFQ and honestly would never stay anywhere else. I didn't take a big tour of POR but did see it.. liked the atmosphere at POFQ more... the pool isn't that exposed to the river... there is great entertainment in the lounge at night... the food court, when we went, was never crowded. The theming is PERFECT and the size of the resort is cozy. I preferred it to CBR which is a larger moderate, like POR. try POFQ... you're still at disney;)

We've stayed at both and preferred POFQ, its smaller and the walk to the food court is short. I also liked it better because it was so quiet, although I really like POR, POFQ is my favorite.
Plus they have Beignets which are wonderful, you must try them when you go!

We've stayed at both, (POFQ 2x's POR 3x's) and prefer POR. The theming is what does it for us. POFQ almost feels to small :confused3 . I LOVE the pool area at POR so much more than POFQ. I like that it is more shaded than POFQ.

There is just "something" that POR has that, IMO, POFQ is lacking. But, this is just my opinon ;)

I totally agree with you, I much prefer POR over POFQ. POR seems more like a resort in which you are immersed in the theme. POFQ is much smaller .. just less to it overall. The parking lots arent far from the center of the resort, which is a downer to me.

However, if walking around is a huge consideration, POFQ is much more "sore feet" friendly.

Either place is nice, I just like POR more.

Hi Emme, I'm not much of a help since we've only stayed at POR once in 1997, but we are in similar situations. DD age 17 stayed at POR when she was 9 years old. I'm going back to POR in late Nov with DGS (not taking DD 17 on the Nov trip). For spring break 2006 DD age 17 and I are going to stay at WDW for 2 nights prior to our cruise and I needed to choose a resort. Though it would be nostalgic for us to stay at POR, I wanted to try something different, especially since I will be at POR in less than a month, so I decided to book POFQ for the 2 nights during spring break.

While I have never been to POFQ, I have heard some nice things about it. I've also heard that some prefer POR to POFQ, and who knows, I might too, but I'm looking forward to trying a new resort. It will be small and quaint and maybe the food court isn't so big (neither is Captain Cooks, but we survived there ok) but it will be a new experience and one I am looking forward to. I dunno, maybe those beignets are calling my name. ;)

I figure, the more resorts we try, we are bound to find a favorite, but until then, let's try as many as we can. We have stayed at Poly, YC, POR, and POP, and do not have a favorite yet.

If you want some convincing on POFQ, one of our DIS'ers, Fantasia, absolutely loves the place. Maybe she will stop by and sing its praises.

Tink
