Can anyone tell me if the water view (Preferred room) at POFQ is worth the extra cost? Just curious if anyone has stayed in a standard vs preferred room with water view. Thanks!

Most of what I have read would be ppl saying its not worth the extra money, but, I went ahead and spent the money and requested a lakeview :confused3, hope I don't regret it ;)

pofq is generally worth it - they have a lot of the lagoon views. You might get a pool view - but only pool view and lagoon views here are consider to be water views.

POR is not - they have water views - pool, fountains, and other things - that are also in the standard view.

Before they had a preferred view category we requested and stayed in a River view room at POFQ. It was nice, but I would not pay extra for it. Since POFQ is a motel-like layout with outside shared corridors and no balconys it is not as if you can sit out and relax enjoying your view. You have to basically leave your room and stand by the railing.
To me, it is not "worth" it.
Enjoy your trip.

We've had a Water view room there before, but to be honest, we didn't really think it was worth it. That resort is so quaint & small that you can walk over to the river in just a few minutes from wherever to look at it. Plus, we just never really left our window open, so we didn't catch the view that often. Also, everything is in close proximity, so don't worry about being too far away from everything.

How often are you in the room looking at the view?? We are up early am & get back to the room to sleep. I would never pay extra for a water view unless it was maybe a honeymoon or anniv. trip.

I have had both river view and a standard view. I preferred the standard view. I don't think the extra price was worth it. Like others have said there isn't a balcony so the view is only out the window. I recall only looking out one day, but then we were trapped in the room because of Hurricane Wilma. I enjoyed the location of our last room in building 3 over the room in building 1.

Thanks everyone for their replies. We'll be staying for 6 nights and only going to go to the parks 2 of those days. So my original thought was that we would be around the resort a lot, plus we have an 11 month old who will be taking lots of naps.

We are planning on staying at the resort more on this trip also and enjoying it and the pool, that's why I went ahead a asked for a water view (hopefully the river, that's is what I requested along with either bldg 2 or 5). Have a wonderful trip!!

Does anyone have a map of POFQ with room numbers? I'm going to book standard-view tomorrow, and I'd like to see my options.

Here's a map with building numbers. http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/portorleans.jpg

Let me explain the process for a minute. When you put a request on your reservation, nothing even happens to it until about 4 or 5 days before your stay ... that's the first time the resort ever gets the info. Sometime between then and check-in day, a room assigner will look over the reservations. Rooms with special requests may be assigned to specific room numbers at that time; the rest will just be in an unassigned pool, and at check-in time the computer will randomly assign a room (water view rooms will be in a general pool for water view rooms, standard view rooms in a general pool for standard view rooms, etc.).

You don't want to get involved with requesting specific room numbers. Request the type of situation you want. In other words, if you request "Building 2, top floor, near elevator," the room assigner knows what you want, and there will be maybe and 20 rooms that fit that description.

But if you do your research and put in a request for Room 2317, it is unliekly you'll get what you want. In the few days leading up to your arrival, it is quite likely that Room 2317 is already occupied. Well, it's more likely that Room 2317 is occupied than all 20 rooms around it are all occupied.

So since Room 2317 is occupied, the room assigner has no choice but to leave your room in the pool of unassigned rooms. WHY? The room assigner can't be psychic. He/she can't know why you chose that room number. It could be your lucky number. It could be a room you stayed in 10 years ago. It could be the lottery number you played to win the money to pay for your WDW trip. The room assigner can't possibly know why you picked that room number, and when it's not available you'll just be totally out of luck.

SO when you put in a request, use language to descrive what you want. The fewer requests you make, the greater the chance you will get it.

Just so you know, POFQ doesn't use the word preferred. The only upgrade categories there are Water View and King-size Bed.

I agree with the majority, that a Water View room at POFQ (and the other 3 Moderate resorts) is NOT worth the money.

Your door and window open onto an exterior corridor, the walkways that people use to get to and from their rooms. This is why I almost never have my curtains open. If your curtains are open wide so you can enjoy the view, then everyone walking by has a great view of YOU!

Mountain, keep in mind that these are not private balconies. It's not like you can go sit out on the balcony and allow your 11 month old to nap in a quiet room. You can't sit out on the balcony because it's a public walkway.

I've seen people bring folding chairs, and I've seen people take a large upholstered chair from inside the room and plop in onto the walkway. People have to walk around them and squeeze by them and it's really a quite rude thing to do.

I'm not for a minute suggesting you will do that. I'm just trying to paint a picture of the situation. When I read of the 11 month old and the fact that you will be spending so few days at the parks, I wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting yourself into.

POFQ is a beautiful place.

When I went to the Poly last year, I requested a range of rooms, and I got what I asked for. I simply wanted to see a map the room numbers so I could get an idea if any of the standard view might have angled views of water or something along those lines.

I appreciate the information. I booked a water-view room because we are staying 14 days. I do intend to bring my bag chair and sit out on the balcony at some point. I will do my very best not to be rude. I plan to request a room in bldg 1, at the farthest point along the front so I will be as out-of-the-way as possible. And of course I will immediately get up and move my chair out of the way if someone needs to get by.

I just love the idea of coming back from the parks at night and sitting out there watching the river, having a cold one.
