I guess a late review is better than no review.....

Cast - Myself & 16 yo DS

We stayed at POFQ August 24th thru the 30th. I was originally booked at the Dolphin, but switched to a POFQ to take advantage of the Free Dining Offer.

I have visited POFQ years ago for dinner & thought it was a lovely resort. I also like the small size of it & wanted to stay in a resort we had never tried before. We opted out of using ME, as I cannot drink FL without getting sick & we needed the grocery stop. We took Tiffany Towncar instead. We've been using them for 7 years now with great pleasure.

When we pulled up, DS & I both remarked on how the Ironwork reminded us of New Orleans. Little did we know that during our trip, our beloved NOLA would be ravaged :(

We arrived around noon, dropped our luggage & proceeded to check in. We waited in line for just a few minutes & check in went very smoothly. We were told a room was ready for us & given a map with out room number, 1125. We set out in search of Bldg. 1, finding it furthest away from the main bldg. Since this is such a small resort, that isn't very far. When we started to look for our room number, I was concerned we were going to be on the Parking lot. If we were on a higher floor, I wouldn't have cared, but I didn't want to be ground floor on a Parking lot dure to the noise & the fact that I have insomnia issues & sleep does not come easy to me.

Luckily we found ourselves NOT on the Parking lot, but just around the corner by the River. We stepped into our room & found it Fresh & Clean & very nicely decorated. We are used to staying primarily in Deluxes & were happily surprised with our room. There was a fridge & coffee maker, 2 musts for me for meds & decent coffee. Our luggage was brought quickly & our BellPerson told us a bit about the Resort & it's amenities.

The beds were comfortable. I was worried as I found our beds at AKL to be rather hard. Transportation was fine. Most buses went to POR, all 4 stops, except for the MK busses. That was a little time consuming, but I enjoyed seeing a little of that resort & as I long as I'm not driving, I'm happy. As usual, busses for the Water Parks & DTD are less efficient. The boat launch to DTD is lovely & we enjoyed taking that over. The food court was pretty ho hum, with the beignets being really the only thing that we enjoyed.

The pool was ok. I think DS would have liked it more if he were 10 years younger. It really is geared towards the littler ones. I was really missing the Lush Tropical Grotto. I usually swim every day of our trips, but at POFQ, only swam 2x, even tho it was the heat of August. I just didn't love the pool area so much. DS didn't use the pool at all.The hot tub is not attached to the main pool area, but is in it's own little garden. I jumped in for a minute, but August in FL is no time for hot tubs IMHO.

All in all, I was not unhappy with POFQ, but I missed my Beloved Dolphin. I have found it increasingly hard to stay anywhere else but the Dolphin, tho. Every time we were in Epcot, we'd look longingly towards the International Gateway, saying "If we were at the Dolphin...." When taking the boat from Epcot to MGM, it was nearly impossible to keep from departing at the Dolphin. Aside from short stays to just try other resorts, I doubt we'll spend much time anywhere but the Dolphin. We miss it too much.

I felt POFQ was a good value for the money, esp. considering the free dining package. Although, if I were to ever choose a Moderate again, I would go back to CSR which I felt had more to offer.

If anyone has any questions, I'll be happy to do my best to answer them.

I'm glad your stay at POFQ was good. I'm glad you gave POFQ a try. Now you know that your favorite resort is CSR and your favorite deluxe is the Dolphin. It is hard to stay anywhere else but your favorite resort. And I am glad that there's plenty of choices. For me I love POFQ and WL and the Polynesian... so it will be hard for me to try anything else. Thanks for sharing your review.

thanks for the review, we are pretty torn between POFQ & CBR for our next trip. can you tell me how you got a free dining plan? what is that exactly? thanks!

The free dining plan is no longer available. I believe it had to be booked by 8/20 with stays checking-in between 8/21 - 10/4. You can still purchase the dining plan as part of a package ($35 per night/per adult 10+ and $10 per night/per child 3-9) as long as you purchase at least 1 day MYW tickets for each person.

This was a great promo which probably was to boost business during hurricane season. If I see it again, I'll jump on it. Sadly it wasn't offered when we're going. :dog2:

Even tho we are AP holders & sacrificed AP rates & had to buy a one day ticket, the plan was worth it for free. We would have not made out so well if we purchased it because of having to purchase a package. BUT, if you are NOT an AP holder, it is a Great Deal! We ate & drank roughly $750 worth of free food & beverage. If we purchased the plan, it would have cost $420 ($35 x2 for 6 nights) I highly reccomend the plan to anyone who isn't an AP holder/FL resident. You can really eat well for what it would cost you to eat only cheap counter service.

Thanks for your review!

We, too, were originally booked at the Dolphin at a really great rate but the free dining was too good to pass up. I really loved using the boats to go to Epcot and MGM but we won't be hopping this short trip & I'm focusing on looking forward to trying something new.
