POFQ CLOSING INFO THREADS-UPDATED & CLEANED UP!

Kaitysmom - well, the rate I got was $136/night. The reason why I'm higher than the rest is because there were no codes out for our stay in November - just the Disney Club discount of 20%. Still - at $136/nt, that is still great for Yacht Club.

philaround, what kind of rate did you start with at POFQ?
I have a dream maker package w/the romance upgrade as well as the room so I'm not sure what just the room rate was.

DisneyFreaks: In response to your question, the CM told me that I have 10 days to change my upgrade should I decide on something different. Hope this helps!

photobob,

My mom started out with a $74 rate (Florida resident). She asked for BWI and got it for $124. I would have been curious to see what else she was offered, but I wasn't there with her this tiem (figures). Since she was offered "any" deluxe, I asked her, "Why didn't you ask for the GF?" She said that she just didn't think about it!

I had a $74 comeback rate and was upgraded this afternoon. I am thrilled that this is finally over. I am very excited we are staying at AKL.

But, then I recieved a call that our flight had been cancelled. I am thinking it's a bad omen for our trip.

susy, I am glad your mom's worked out. When I called this morning, I asked about my prices and she said it would be between $10-20 unless I wanted to stay at GF.

I just wanted to make a post saying....I'm impressed.
Disney called me today to give me a call to say they were sorry with all the trouble they might have caused me for the closing of FQ, and they saw I got the Poly, and wanted to tell me to have a wonderful time.

That was it!

I smiled, and said thank you! That was so nice of them to do!

Thank you, thank you for these boards! My husband & I made Dream Maker package reservations last September thru our AAA TA. We were staying for 4 nights in POR and 3 nights at Universal Studios, 9/7 thru the 14th, 2003. A year ahead!!! So when I read about the POR closing, I called my TA in a panic and left a machine message that no way did I want to stay at CBR or CSR and that even though the last 2 times we stayed at "Dixie Landings", I 'd rather stay there than the other two moderates. Then the next day I read on these boards about Upgrades! Oh no! So the next day my TA calls and tells my husband (of course, I wasn't home) that we're booked in Riverside now. I call her back later and tell her what I've been reading on these boards about upgrades. She says she'll do her best. Today, I get a call..she booked us at WL for $10/night additional. We're thrilled because we're on a budget of sorts and a deluxe is a deluxe! We could have had the Poly for $30/night more but we're staying at the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal and thought that a different themed hotel at WDW would be more fun. Also, my TA did not know about the closing until I called her and she was very grateful that I gave her the heads up.

Geez, am I the only person here who has not had this settled yet? Boy, do I have some rotten luck or what?

Disneyfreaks, was it you who was saying that you wanted to make sure you wouldn't be staying in a dumpster? Maybe I'll wind up in a dumpster. You think I can get an extra pillow in my dumpster?

Seriously, though, I'm glad to hear that everyone is getting such great deals. It gives me hope that I will be able to get something great as well.

Karen

Karen...if it makes you feel any better you are not the only one waiting...I still haven't heard anything either! I called yesterday, was on hold for 45 minutes and finally just left a message. I didn't hear anything back today and got home too late today to call again.

I agree with you though, it is great to hear about some of the great deals that everyone is getting. Even though the whole thing is hassle now, in the end it seems that it is giving many people a once in a lifetime shot to stay at a great hotel for an amazing price. I hope we both hear something tomorrow!

Susy... I was glad to hear that your mother was able to upgrade even with the FL resident price. I am a FL resident too and was following your posts to see the final outcome.

The price of the upgrades is definitly based on what your current rate is, the lower the orginal rate the lower the price of the upgrade!!! I just got off the phone and was offered:Poly, YC, BC, and Boardwalk for $116.00 per night including tax and AKL for $93.50 per night including tax! I had an orginal rate of $74.00/ $82.50 with tax at POFQ. I chose the Poly for 2 nights and YC for 2 nights and I am thrilled! I spoke to the CM regarding an upgrade rate for a co-worker that is in the same situation with ressies at POFQ but her ressie is for Aug and they want to upgrade to WL, and the CM told me your rate for upgrade depends on your original rate--so she couldn't give me rates that would apply to my coworkers code/rate. etc; since I did not know which promotion my coworker's ressie is booked under. Sooooo...... if you have a resident rate with the original reservation then the resident rate is applied to the new reservation and then you are given a % off for the complimentary upgrade and then you pay the difference if you choose, OR you can transfer to another moderate for no additional cost.
I am totally shocked at how good the upgrade rates are. I guess attendence is off at WDW more than they let on. Actually this is a very good business decesion because a very large precentage of guests are choosing the wonderful upgrades to deluxe resorts so therefore we are spending more per night than we had orginally planned. And if Disney has to have resorts at a low occupancy it is better to be the lower cost resorts. At the deluxe resorts guests are prone to spend money on what is around them and that is sit down restaurants vs food courts, multiple and very nice lounges, multiple very nice shops vs the one big store at the moderate resorts, all the extra per hour rental stuff like the boats, bikes, behind the scene tours, parasailing, fishing trips, etc. Very smart move on Disney's part and a very good PR and marketing technique for their guests. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Has anyone who started out with a $74/night rate gotten an upgrade to a deluxe (Yacht, Beach, Boardwalk, Poly) for less than $124? (Not including WL and AKL). Just wondering... this is the rate we got at the Boardwalk - which is great, but I'm just wondering if anyone else got a bigger discount. Just curious.

I have to tell you that we finally received our "call" today. We started out with the FL resident rate of $74/night and our upgrade options were: AK or WL for $85/night or BWI or Poly for $106/night. The YC/BC had no availibilty for our week and also the BWI "pool area" was going to be under some type of renovations so we chose the AKL because we have not stayed there and because we had heard good things about it plus we thought that sounded like a pretty good deal. Good luck with your decision!

Wow! I love reading about all the great deals everyone is receiving. My DU agent hasn't had any luck getting any information for me. I do enjoy reading about those of you with the FL Resident rate of $74. and the upgrade prices you are getting. Send me some pixie dust and hopefully I'll hear something soon!

Karen, I am still keeping my fingers crossed that you get upgraded to something terrific. For all the grief they have put you through they should give you GF concierge for no additional cost! I know what you mean about "sleeping in the dumpsters" I really was beginning to think we would get nothing. But we did and I know you will too.
We are going to call tomorrow though to see how much it would cost to get moved up to at least a pool view at AKL. I hope it's not a small fortune. The one room we have booked is for our daughter and son in laws' honeymoon trip. I'd like something better for them than a view of the bus stop and parking lot.
Happy vacations everyone!

Forgot to thank Kayeil for letting me know we can call back within 10 days.
Thanks!!

After an email from my TA yesterday that it would be a while before an upgrade would be possible for my trip in December and advised to just wait & see, I get an email tonight that I've been upgraded to WL woods view for $10 a night plus tax. Mine was the rack rate because I didn't have any type of code but she felt there would be some sort of code or discount between now and then. But I'm happy anyway, and a discount would be icing on the cake!

Off2disney

Can I just clarify with you... your TA thinks you may be able to apply any possible upcoming codes to your upsell rate? Wow, we are in the same boat as you (for a while I thought it was the Titanic!!) We had ressies for December too and were paying full rack rate.. so I'd be curious if they would allow any codes to be applied to our discounted rates if/when they appear. I am not going to rely on it but what a wonderful bonus if we could... would take the pressure off a bit financially as we are really stretching it now we're doing Deluxe.......

Thanks to all those that gave advice/hints/suggestions etc on what approach to take regarding the closure of POFQ and subsequent transfer of reservations.

I decided not to wait to be contacted but rang the 'relocation team' directly.

After several calls and talking on three seperate occasions (I dread to think what the telephone bill will be ringing from England!!) I eventually managed to get an upgrade for our May trip.

10 nights at the Animal Kingdon Lodge, savannah view, for $114 + tax per night. This represents an increase on what I was paying at POFQ of $20+tax per night.

Needless to say I am very satisfied with this

Good luck to all.

Okay, now I am really confused!

I am reading about people getting offered the Poly, AKL savannah, and Epcot resorts for much less than what my mom is paying (124 plus tax at BWI), even though you started at the same rate of $74. Is it for the same season? I know that May is regular season. Could she have a water view or some other upgrade? She said they did ask her if she preferred a king size bed or 2 queens. I wish I had been with her when she called.

Does she for sure have the converted rate for the move? I originally had $124 at AKL for a standard room when they moved me. That was the price with my original code at AKL. When I called back on Sunday, the CM told me that rate had not yet been converted to the new rates for relocation. She said I was given bad information. The $74 rates were some of the last that were done and I am not sure that all have been yet. I don't know for sure though...just a suggestion to call and ask. I called a few times before that though and the other people I talked to indicated it was the correct rate (it wasn't). So, once again, getting someone who is good makes all the difference. Linda is great, but she's off Wed and Thurs of this week. David also seemed to know his stuff. Unfortunately, I only asked about AKL. Not sure this helped at all.

One other suggestion, call CRO with her code for that same resort, during the same season and see what price they give you. That's how I knew my rates were the same.

another topic:
a friend of mine is going in May and I believe it's May 2nd that he said he received a call that MGM is closing that night at 6 pm. Dining called him because he had a PS for 6:30 and he had to cancel it. No reason was given.

Liz--I'm sorry to hear that you are still waiting for your upgrade rate. I hope you hear something soon. I know how frustrating the waiting is.

Susy--You should call back and clarify the reservation your mom made, and see what they say. Even at $124, the BWI is an incredible deal.

DeeP--I agree with you about Disney giving the upgrades to us to spend more money at the resort. I also think that they would have an easier time filling the lower priced rooms with the economy as it is, so if their are fewer lower priced rooms, why not offer great deals to the people in those rooms to get them to move up, and open up more cheap rooms, especially with at least 1,000 of those rooms closing.

Here's hoping today's my day to hear about my upgrade. They did tell me mid-week.

Karen
