POFQ Beignets - worth a special trip?

My husband has been to the French Quarter in NO, and to Port Orleans French Quarter. He didn't think the ones at POFQ were spectacular. I feel the Beignets at POFQ were good, but I don't think they are worth a special trip. Also, you will want to eat these while they hot.

Definitely wouldn't make a special trip for them. They were ok not great. I wouldn;t buy some to share hours later either. I found a recupe and made my own at home and they were much better than POFQ and it was my first time so no not worth a trip just for that.

Are the beignets at POFQ worth a special trip over to the resort? Also, if I pick some up for my group will they still be tasty after a 10-15 car ride back to our resort, or should they be eaten right away (hot)?

In a word...NO. They are ok but not worth a special trip. I can think of better ways of spending time in WDW.

Another vote for no. They are good but definately not worth an extra trip. I was disappointed that they were hollow inside. I guess I was expecting something else. If you are over that way, then yes, I would get some but not worth going out of your way

No and no. They are good but there will be a million other good things to eat in the parks and your own resort. And they really need to be hot to taste good. Have a funnel cake instead.

I absolutely agree. We tried them many times staying at POFQ and they were good BUT not so special to make a trip.

I stayed at POFQ and never even tried them, the ones I saw people eating just did not appeal to me at all.

Do not make the special trip.

I love Bennies and the ones at POFQ were poor to say the least. The CM's cooking them had no idea what they were doing and served them when they were still WHITE!

Thinking about the hit or miss (mostly MISS!) nature about the beignets at POFQ I would definitely not make the special trip.

Sorry but I'm just saying this was my experience!

Good luck with your decision,
Marlton Mom

Another who says not worth a special trip. The ones at POFQ are just OK.

I make better ones at home from a mix they sell at Walmarts.:rotfl: Over in the flour section our local Walmarts has bignet mix. Simply add water, roll out, cut into 2" squares, drop into a deep fryer, remove when they float to the top and turn brown, place on paper towels, sift powdered sugar over them, and serve immediately. They're easy to make and taste better than the ones at POFQ.:rotfl:

No, I dont think they are worth going out of your way for

If you're used to Cafe du Monde's beignets, then I'd probably say not worth it. But if you're stuck somewhere far, far from New Orleans (like me), then they taste GREAT. :)

They are good hot. Don't try to take extra with you because as they cool they are not good at all.

Also, it is worth the trip, if it isn't out-of-the-way. If you are staying at POR, it is worth it. If you have to travel across the "world" to get there, don't bother.

If you are at DTD the boat ride to POFQ is worth the time.

We used to stay there years ago before we bought DVC. It was our favorite resort!! That was where we first tasted them and fell in love with them!! :love:We used to make a special trip over there just to get them! Over the years they have totally gone downhill!! They don't even taste the same!! They used to be huge and substantial...now they are tiny and they are like biting into a pocket of air coated in powdered sugar!:sad2: So disappointing!! And they cost more!!

If you are at DTD the boat ride to POFQ is worth the time.

I agree here! We've stayed FQ and POR and a highlight is the DTD boat ride. If you have the time take the trip. If you have alot of time take boat to last stop POR check out that resort (IMO the Mansion views from boT are beautiful) . If it's not too hot them walk the 15 minutes to FQ and take the boat back from there.

OT. Aren't beinets the same as churros??? Those you can get everywhere

We were not crazy about them.. I do not like that they are hollow inside and they tasted like cardboard. If I was not staying at POFQ, I would not make my way there just to get beignets, but that is just me. There are far better desserts/snacks on property. Some people love them. I would like them more if they drizzled chocolate over them or if they weren't hollow in the middle.
