POFQ Beignets - worth a special trip?

We like them, but if that was the only reason to go there then I wouldn't. But if your going there and then taking the boat to DTD or take a carriage ride, then I would definitely try them. I get a kick out of people that compare a CS beignet to a place that has been making them for 150 years.

find the closest tex-mex restaurant and get yourself some sopapillas. I couldn't tell the difference.

They taste similar to funnel cake with lots of powdered sugar to me. I would not make a special trip.

Glad I am not alone. We heard so much hype that we went over from POR to try them and were disappointed. Cardboard with too much powdered sugar on them. I've never had the real thing to compare to, the closest I have gotten are the ones the serve at Disneyland (better IMO), but these were borderline gross.

Not worth a special trip.

They get a mental boost from "resort euphoria" and the desire to want to enjoy them because you're paying more for them...they are not bad and not great. Like so many of the foods at WDW, if you had a good place to buy beignets at home or elsewhere...you probably wouldn't be wow'ed by ones inside the resort

They are just fried dough, very similar to a basic yeast-raised doughnut batter (with less sugar in the batter). Then they cover it in loose powdered sugar. If you sdirve 15 minutes back to your resort, the powdered sugar melts and the beignet falls.

Nope - But POFQ has an awesome breakfast sandwich on a croissant that is one of my favorite things to eat. I'd make a special trip for those! :rotfl:

POFQ can make a allergy safe Beignet. So for me yeah it would be worth a special trip because I would get a treat that I usually can't get.

I wasn't always allergic and no the beignet at POFQ are in no way as good as what you get in NOLA or the surrounding areas. However the ones at POFQ are not awful, and I've had both versions a few times. They are very close to a sopapilla which I use to love before the wheat cut me off.

DL's aren't the same either!! IMO! We first tried them at DW about 1999. They were thick, chewy and yummy!! 2 orders completely filled up my family of 3! I just wonder if anyone else remembers this?:confused3 I know that today's product is not same thing!!

We haven't been to DLand since 2010, so I can't speak to what they are serving now. I hope they haven't ruined a good thing.

I think POR/POFQ are worth a special trip just to walk around, since the grounds, river, etc. are beautiful. But I definitely would not make a trip just for the beignets. I'd prefer deep-fried [insert your favorite candybar here] at a state or county fair to those things. I have also had the NOLA beignets and the ones at POFQ can hardly be compared.

This thread is from 2011 LOL!!!

Anyway, we stayed at POFQ last year and I tried the beignets. They were not very good and not very beignet like. It was more like state fair fried dough buried beneath 10 pounds of powdered sugar.

They're good, but if you can get beignets anywhere else in your life, they aren't worth a special trip. We have a food truck in town that does beignets and they're as good as POFQ's.

We have made the trip when we stayed at a close resort, Saratoga Springs. I would not travel from our normal hotel (Bay lake) for them. In my opinion, if you guys want them go get them. Don't rely on someone else !

We were not impressed by the beignets at all. There are a lot of tastier treats to eat at WDW.
