The Cast: DD 4 (almost 5), my husband and myself.
4 nights at Port Orleans, French Quarter. (our first time ‘on property’)
October 2 – October 6.
One Magical Hour day at MK.
Cinderella’s breakfast.
MK, MGM, Epcot and Downtown Disney.

Just back and we had a short, but great trip! Quick thoughts:
~I loved POFQ!
~Characters seemed to be extra bountiful this trip!
~Cast Members were superb! I can not imagine where all the reports to rude cast members come from. Everyone I encountered had a smile on their face and were extremely helpful. If I needed one, they were easy to find. It really makes me think.
~Lines were short! Less than 10 minutes, if that long, for everything we rode.
~It was still very hot!
~Magical hour day at MK was nice, but for how early it was, and how short the lines were the rest of the day, I’m not sure how necessary it was for us this trip. Thur. at MK was DEAD, Saturday morning was a quite a bit busier but still pretty short lines.

THE RESORT:
We arrived on Wednesday evening at POFQ, and check in was a breeze. My daughter enjoyed watching Mickey cartoons while sitting in the little rocking chairs. Our room was a standard view, two double bed, corner room (yay!) in building 4. It was a great location right across the walkway to the food court and close to parking (we drove). In our room waiting for my daughter was a signed photo by Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, and Pluto with several balloons! :teeth: It was a nice surprise and great way to start our stay. This was our first time staying on Disney property. I did miss the extra room (we always stayed in 2 room suites) but I really enjoyed staying here. The room was clean. Yes, our carpet was a little worn, but it didn’t bother me. We were close to everything, but I think that would be pretty much true no matter what building you were in. Even when going to the far back of the resort to the boat launches, it was a very quick walk. My daughter loved the pool area and the dragon water slide. There were towels to use by the pool as well as different sized life vests for the kids to use. My husband and I loved the pool bar! :teeth: We did charging privileges, which came in very handy. All the POFQ cast members were extremely helpful and always had a smile. As with all CM's I encountered elsewhere at WDW. And the resort is just beautiful! :sunny: I didn’t mind walking anywhere, because it was always such a pleasant stroll.
I wasn’t expecting towel animals, and didn’t mention them to my daughter or husband in case we didn’t get one, but on Friday, when we came back to the room, we had a bunny! :D It was a nice surprise, and my daughter thought it was great! It was the only one be got during our stay, and I was very happy with what we were lucky enough to get.
I liked the food court well enough. The beignets (sp?) were delicious. My husband had a double cheeseburger which he said was good, but filled him up a little too much! We also tried the cheese steaks (can’t compare to a REAL cheese steak but they were good, (though the first one was better than my second), personal pizza (didn’t try it, but my DD seemed to like it), chicken quesadillas (they were alright), Mickey waffles (very good) and misc. desserts like Mickey bars and pastries (all delicious!). They will give you lids to your food if you ask if you want to bring your food back to your room. The food court was always clean, and condiments and utensils were plentiful. They also always had a Disney movie playing on a big screen TV.

WHAT WE DID:

Thursday morning we had to get up EARLY. My husband had a case in Sanford and had to pick up a lawyer from the airport at 7am. So we had set the alarm for 5 and a wake-up call for 5:10. My daughter was half awake for the wake-up call but answered the phone. When she heard Mickey she jumped out of bed with the phone and listened carefully, then she yelled, and I mean ‘yelled’ into the phone, “OK Mickey, I’m getting up now! I’ll see you soon!”. :teeth: After DH was off, my daughter had some cereal in our room and we headed to the bus stop about 7:10. We had a MK bus within 10 minutes and were at the MK (for early entry/ Magical hour) by 7:40/7:45. We exchanged our vouchers for tickets and waited in line for the 8:00 opening. We headed straight to Space Mountain, which might be considered a bit of a mistake since it was having technical difficulties and were delayed a bit by that. We did Space Mountian, Buzz, Speedway, Peter Pan, Dumbo, Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Aladdin. DD fell asleep around noon and shortly after we met up with my husband. We hung around and talked about his case, and soaked up the atmosphere and after she woke up close to 2, we all got hot-dogs from Casey’s and headed back to the resort. Spent some time in the pool, had dinner and called it a night.
Friday we went to MGM. We drove and got front row parking. Here we did Star Tours, Muppet 3D, Backlot Tour, Little Mermaid, Tower of Terror, DH and I did Rockin’ Roller Coaster. DD fell asleep again and we hung out and shopped. After she woke up we headed over to Epcot. Only did Spaceship Earth and Test Track (DD really liked this one) and headed over to the World Showcase after buying my daughter a new t-shirt after she soaked her self in some fountains (of course this is the day I didn’t bring a spare set of clothes or her bathing suit!) We all really enjoyed the World Showcase and ate in Morocco. My daughter had a ball working on her mask at the different countries and we all loved the parade, the same with Illuminations, just beautiful! It was a late night and we had early PS’s for….
Saturday. We had 8:05 PS’s for Cinderella’s and my daughter dressed up as Jasmine. We had a great time, and had window seats, but I think this will be our last breakfast for a while, we were just SO tired after being at Epcot late. Next trip will be a character lunch or dinner! We did a few rides but headed back to POFQ before noon as we were all exhausted and all took a long nap. Well DD and DH took a long nap. I took a shorter nap and hung out at the pool bar for a while!. :D After dinner at the food court, we headed out to Downtown Disney via the Port Orleans boats. It was a nice ride that we all enjoyed. I didn’t think my daughter would enjoy DTD as much as the parks, but she proved me wrong. I can’t tell you how long we played at Once Upon a Toy! We also spent extensive time at the Lego store. She LOVED racing the Lego cars she created on the ramps they provide. We had a hot fudge sundae at Ghirardelli’s (sp?). Now I have to tell you, watch out for these, I think they have some kind of addictive, mind-altering drug in them! :p I have never had such a great sundae in my life! :teeth: Lot’s of great shopping, we stuck to the Marketplace side of DTD. After a couple of rounds on the little carousel we headed back to POFQ via boat.
Sunday morning we started packing up. I asked DD what she would like to do that morning. I figured she would want to pick a park and get a few more rides in, but nope, she wanted to go back to the Toy Store! So she and I took the bus while my husband finished the last bits of packing and loading the car. She made about 15 printout of various Mr. Potato heads at Once Upon a Toy and DH met up with us there. She spent a good hour or so in the fountain there (had here bathing suit this time!) and then she had a grilled cheese from the gourmet shop. I also picked up some rice crispy treats. These things must have been almost 3 inches thick with a huge layer of chocolate poured on! I had one on the drive home and I loved it! We then played at the Lego store some more. I picked up a watch I had been eyeing that weekend and then we had one more stop to the Ghirardelli’s for one last hot fudge sundae! Then back to POFQ briefly to give DD a quick bath and we headed out! It was probably just after 1 when we hit the road and DD was out like a light for most of the trip (just under 2 ½ hours to our home in Boynton Beach.

If you have any questions, let me know.

And if you read this whole thing, thank you, I’m impressed!

I want to go back!!!! :( :D :bounce: :Pinkbounc :teeth: :sunny:

times.....Port was always a very special resort for us as it was our first time To Disney over ten years ago.....I think the way it is situated and not a real busy busy resort was the reason we loved it so much......You did alot in your four nights stay....Thanks so much for telling us about it......

Thanks for your report Lisa. I love POFQ. I am Glad you had a great time. It's nice being so close to Disney. Makes me wish I was back in Palm Beach County again.

I read the whole thing - thank you for posting. As you can see we are about to head down and appreciate all the info we can get. So for my questions - How were the lines? and the bugs? I think you covered the important stuff ( esp the food:) ). So glad you had fun, thanks again for posting.

Thanks guys! :teeth:

How were the lines? and the bugs?

I don't think we waited more than 10 minutes or so for any ride! And I didn't notice any bugs. I did bring bug spray and put it on DD's legs and arms if she went outside at night when we were at the resort, but didn't do anything for the parks, and no problems.

I am so glad you posted this! We will be going next fall with our 2 sons (2½ & 4) - have already booked at PO-FQ. I was wondering which bldg to request. We, too, have booked standard rooms. Did you have a nonsmoking room? I want a room close to the food court/bus stop. The less walk at the resort, the better for us. Both sets of grandparents are joining us.

Did you have a nonsmoking room?

Yes it was a non-smoking room. I would say building 4 is closest to food court and bus stops. Others might be close to food court as well, but 4 would be closest to both.

Thanks for all the great info! I DID read it all! My family (DH, DDs 3 and 7 and myself) will be leaving in just two short days to stay at POFQ. This will be our first time to stay at FQ. I appreciate all the info. I have one quick question. We are planning on going to MK on a Saturday which I read is a NO-NO. Did you find MK really crowded the Sat that you were there? Thanks!

It was noticeably more crowded on Saturday than it was on Thurs. but it was still very manageable, with low wait times. Have fun!

Thanks for the fantastic report!!! I have stayed at POFQ a few years ago and loved it! I will be there again!!!!!

Thanks. I loved the part about the wake-up call. We're going to PO-FQ in November. Can't wait.
