I unsubscribed to a podcast because I was having problems with auto uploads. I have uploaded all of the podcasts again, so no problem there. There is one particular episode that was edited at a later date. I have to original episode on my iPod. If I have the episode number on my iPod, will iTunes just think it is the same episode and not change it?

Thanks,
Kim

Are the files named the same? It seems like iTunes errors on the side of caution and will make a duplicate before it deletes something. As for your specific scenario ungainly say for certain.

I was having trouble too. But if I deleted the discussion show and then downloaded the e-mail show it worked.

I have a feeling this discussion show will be a "lost" episode.

I haven't listened to the discussion show yet. My iPod battery ran down!

Soon, eventually, I am sure the iPod gods and goddesses will allow me to download the email show.

My recent look into the current podcast issues uncovered a few things I didn't realize about how iTunes organizes podcasts.

This is not guaranteed to be strictly true - it appeared to be the case for me though.

If you "unsubscribed" by deleting the podcast but do not delete the recordings you already downloaded, when you resubscribe the ones you already have will still be shown. That is so long as they didn't change any of the "metadata" about that episode. Which is you were still seeing it associated to the podcast before you deleted it, is probably true.

But if you specifically want to save this particular file, I would copy it out of your iTunes folder to someplace outside of iTunes, then add the file back to the library separately. It should appear in your Music library.

But I want all the DIS podcasts I want to save in my Dis Unplugged folder in Podcasts. Not in my Music library!

This is for a one-off case of saving a podcast file that isn't in the feed file any longer. There is a way to mark it as a podcast again although I don't remember how.

Worst case with files that are still in the feed file is you download them again. The DIS feed goes back to the original format change.

Unfortunately the podcast I want is no longer on my computer. Right after I unsubscribed and they all went away, I realized what I had done. I was wondering, if I set iTunes to sync the most recent podcast, would it leave the rest of them alone?, Or would they all be gone from the iPod?

I can't predict what it will do on your iPod. It will probably depend on whether you have settings which allow it to remove files from your iPod (DW has one, I don't any more, so I don't remember how it is set).

If you don't have the files on your computer, are they still on your iPod and THAT is what you want to preserve?

That is exactly it. I will try playing more with the preferences and if I can't find what you said, I will take a trip to the Genius bar. I wonder when John is available? :rotfl: Luckily there is an Apple store very close to me. And the iPhone stuff is starting to die down.
