Podcast Cruise 3.0 - 06/24/2012

It feels like it was just yesterday that we were counting down the days to PCC 1.0 At the 10 day mark for us!

Yeay! The trip is close enough that Kristine has caught the bug! I can actually talk about the itinerary, the plans, the board posts . . . we must be getting close!

Just did online check-in for our pre-precruise stay. :dance3:

One night at VWL before moving to the Swan for our pre-cruise stay. Dinner at AP that night.

Interesting. Not only are we staying at VWL pre-cruise, also (although for five days, but we are headed home immediately after the cruise), but our room is right under yours on the cruise. What's your recommendation for room and floor at the VWL (second choice, of course)? We are getting a 2 bedroom villa.

With the exception of OKW, we always prefer a top floor room. We've had one (maybe several) too many experiences with families above us allowing children to jump off beds, etc in the unit above us so a top floor room at least solves that. The OKW exception is more practical, no elevators (except in 3 buildings) means having to haul bags up stairs.

At VWL, we don't have a preferred location. We are happy with any "view" there and its so small that the walk to the elevators isn't bad no matter where you are.

We're getting in later on the Thursday (6:30-ish) and are dining at AP that night. The next day we will be picking up Connor at AKL (he's flying in that day with Mike and Christy Holland) and checking in to the Swan for two nights.

If you do see us at VWL, be sure to say hi.

Just did online check in for our stay at bay lake tower for 2 nights pre-cruise!

Talk me down guys, I'm so nervous about this trip. I feel totally unprepared. I feel like I need to have a lot more stuff planned for the cruise because when you go to WDW you must have a huge thought out plan to survive. Should DCL be a simple trip? Am I stressing for no reason over having no well thought out plan other than showing up for the cruise? I don't have an excel spread sheet made out, will I be lost?

thats the same time as palo brunch:worried:

nevermind, brunch is the day before!!! woo hoo!

I can relate to lugnut33. Truth is, except for the chance to meet people, I'm more excited about my pre-trip WDW days than the cruise so far. I think it's mostly about "the unknown."

We're going to go-go-go on Friday and Saturday before the cruise, since it seems like there will be a lot of relax time on the ship.

Still, everyone I have talked to who has done a Disney Cruise puts it at the top of their "favorite vacations" lists. It'll just be strange to get home and not be worn out, lol!

We are leaving next Tuesday, and we have so much leading up to that. We have not even started packing. Tonight we are going to see Cirque Du Soleil, then on Sat. my youngest has her big huge dance recital, the same day my wife has her final presentation to give in her school finance classes at Edgewood, on Sunday I have to get my oldest up to UW Madison for a two day golf clinic (then pick her up later on Monday). I am just overwhelmed.

For our WDW pre-cruise portion I have our annual passes, Disney Visa rewards card, reservations made, car rental, and an excel spread sheet plan on what we are going to do each day.

Perfectly understandable. But yes, there really isn't a reason to stress. Let me make a few, possibly contradictory, comments about a DCL cruise especially as combined with a few days before/after at WDW.

  • Remember your first trip to WDW? How stressed, confused, unprepared you probably felt for that? Its the same thing for your first cruise, DCL or otherwise.
  • Don't think you have to do/see everything on the daily Navigators or the DIS events either. This is supposed to be a vacation so take it at your own pace. Most likely this won't be your last cruise.
  • Packing for a cruise is more complex than for just a WDW trip. You'l want to be dressed nicer at night on board than you might typically do at WDW. That means a lot more clothes and accessories.
  • You'll be taking so many more pictures on the cruise (mostly because its all new to your) that you need to be sure you have enough storage. Pack an extra memory card if you don't bring along a computer to download to.
  • Sunscreen is very important on the cruise and you don't want to pay the prices they charge on board.
  • Pack some muscle relaxers. You'll probably need them to get the smile off your face when its all over.
