POC - Good Enough yet? / Weekly Update

I took DH who hadn't seen Pirates yet to the super ritzy theatre today for the matinee, I couldn't believe the thing was half full!

It's still pulling in the people, after all this time...

It amazes me! :)

LOL! Are you kidding? I've been talking about it for weeks...he loved it and has been walking around "arghing" all night, and wants me to put together a costume for our Halloween WDW trip...(Little does he know I started that a long time ago!)

It's just a really, really fun movie! We all think so! :)

By the way, I've even found my Lady in Red dress...this movie cost me a bunch more than the tickets...Disney really should pull it's head out and start remembering adults in merchandising! (OkOK, so I suppose you COULD be a 6ft Pooh...but to me that just doesn't count as ADULT merchandising!) I would have much preferred buying from them...if it had any quality at all that is...

...I can't wait for Halloween, and the sequel! ;)

Wow, seeing that list of movie release dates, I think Alamo barely stands a chance. Not only will it be opening a week after LoTR, but the other 4 movies opening the same day seem likely to kill any chance at a good opening.

Haunted Mansion seems like it could also be in trouble, depending on how well the Cat in the Hat does...

As for how I would classify legs....if the movie hangs in the top 5 (Good Luck) on August 20, I will say it's got legs. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

How about August 21, lol will that work enough for you to join the rest of the world lol?

edited to add that Nemo passed the Lion King on the all-time chart today, making it the top grossing animated film (non-inflated).

POC up to nearly 261M. I'd think it's almost a sure thing to catch Matrix2 at 278M the way it's tracking and now, with the help of PG's new release list (a few posts earlier), I have to wonder if 300M isn't a distinct possibility?

Now I'll go on record and say the movie has/had legs.

Kinda like betting on a sure thing, eh?

BTW, have you happened to see the movie?

POTC came in as the #3 movie over labor day weekend -

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?yr=2003&wknd=35a&p=.htm

pulling in $10.8 over the 4-day weekend for a cume of $275...I noticed that Matrix:Reloaded is currently at $279.7, so Matrix fans better start bracing themselves...

The #2 movie? Freaky Friday, totaling $90.8 on the way to passing 100 - actually Freaky Friday was #1 on Monday-

Now in the top 20 of all time also.

300M is looking real possible...Maybe even probable. Wow!

Does anyone know if it will be released for Christmas this year or is this too early?

I'm assuming you mean on DVD?
If so, it's scheduled to come out on December 2nd.

Gotta say I enjoyed the movie despite the fact that the charactor Capt Jack is a clone of my gay BIL. Voice,gestures,appearance,attitude.... it was just bizarre. As soon as he stepped onto the pier from his sinking boat, DW,DS and I all looked at each other and said "THATS JOHN". It was hard to watch the movie without constantly cracking up. We may have to give the DVD to MIL as a Christmas gift.

No compelling plot. No endearing characters. No life altering messages...

Must be those people that have seen the movie 6 times have helped skew it's popularity.

There is one person on another thread that has seen the movie 10 times and claims that they are going to see it 3 times a day for the next week up until the day they leave for WDW.

POC actually moved back into the #1 slot on Tuesday, 9/9:
Box Office Results
It will certainly drop again during the weekend, but it seems pretty impressive to retake the #1 slot after that long...

I thought it might be a good time to resurrect this thread as
PoTC has just cleared the 300 MILLION DOLLAR MARK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it good enough yet????????
