We are WDW vets, but the last time I was at DL was 1979.

I was 10 at the time.

Does POC still have the big drop at the start of the ride? I remember it makes you look up at the talking skull and while you attention is up there is a big drop leaving your stomach at the top.

The first time we rode POC at WDW I was waiting for it, but of course it never happened. DW and DS had never been to either DL or WDW before and I was looking forward to them screaming!! LOL

I was of course disappointed when it never happened.

There are 2 drops in DLR's version of POTC, IIRC.

Yes- actually there are 2 drops. The first one is after the talking skull, and it isn't a complete surprise since you can hear the water and likely the screamers in the boat ahead of you. The second drop is a little smaller, but everything is brighter at the bottom, so you can see pretty well. It happens very shortly after the first drop. Both are super fun!

As others have said, there are actually two drops in DL's PotC. The first one is the "bigger" drop and happens in near total darkness. The second one happens soon after the first (before you get the first of the pirate skeletons, not counting the talking skull) and it better lit and not as steep. There are other differences between the DL and MK versions of PotC!

I concur with the PPs. Two drops, the first is a steep drop in complete darkness after looking at the talking skull. The second, less steep drop, is soon after the first which brings you to the scenes of all the dead pirates (on island, at ship's helm, bar, etc.)

The grown up you will probably be disappointed at how little that drop seems now! It still might be enough to startle your DW and make her jump or scream, especially if she is used to WDW's version. As far as your DS, that would probably depend on his age. It scared my DD when she was little. :)

That's what I'm hoping!! :teeth:

Actually, both drops at DL are taller than the single drop at WDW. Even knowing it's coming, the first drop will probably startle you a little if you're used to the shallow drop at Magic Kingdom.
