PO vs YC Inside hallways?

Planning a quick trip, just myself, dd 16, and ds 10. PO mansions is a good price but is it safe? I'm nervous about the outside doors to our room. I really wanted the YC, because of inside hallways but I'm comparing $85 to $179. I've never been away without my husband. Has anyone heard of any problems? Thank you.

While no place can guarantee you 100% safety, the outside doors at WDW resorts are not the problem they might be at a "regular" motel. Disney has all kinds of security seen and unseen. They also restrict access to the parking areas, keeping an eye on who is coming in and out of the moderate resorts. I would not be concerned about a safety issue at a Disney moderate versus a deluxe. Just remember the "rules" you should follow at any resort....always keep the door closed and locked (preferably throw the dead bolt). Don't leave it ajar while you just run down the hall for ice, etc. Always keep it locked. Don't open the door for anyone who knocks unexpectedly. Look out the peephole. If you have any question, call the front desk and ask whether they sent a maintenance person, etc.

I would dare to say that you are just as safe at any WDW resort no matter the "level". After all, the hostage situation was at a deluxe. And even that event was handled in a manner that no guests were really at risk.

Depending on how many days you are going for why don't you
split the stay. That's what we decided 4 nights POR and 3 nights
YC. I wanted to stay in a deluxe, but I thought 7 nights was
too expensive. Weare planning do go to most of the parks when at POR and go at a slower pace when we stay at YC and enjoy the resort a little. Good Luck deciding what to do.

Those that rate hotels and assign stars to them, rate hotels/resorts with interior hallways (as the YC) as safer. If you will be without your DH, I would go for the YC (but then again, I am prejudiced!). You also need your room key to enter through the outside doors at the YC after 11pm.

I was at POR in the mansions with my Dh and kids , I would go there with my kids by myself and not feel worried about my safety, I felt very comfortable and safe there, But I would never answer my door without looking through the peephole just like at home, But i really wouldn't worry about not feeling safe.

Speaking as a husband, pay the extra and go with the YC. DW probably thinks I'm over-protective, but I always take the safest route with her. It just helps me sleep better at night.

Also, for a short trip there is no beter location than the YC/BC or BWI. These resorts are the most centrally located, so you don't give up precious vacation time travelling from resort to theme park.

Why not go for one of the less expensive Deluxes, i.e. WL or AKL? They both have inside hallways and with the recent codes, they can be as low as $119 per night.

For a quick trip, I'd go with YC for several reasons:

1. Time: a quick trip means less time to waste on transportation and you'll find better transportation at YC than PO. If you are an abled person, you can easily walk to Epcot or MGM...in fact, we consistently could walk to MGM in less time that it took to ride on the boat to MGM!

2. Pool: your kids will have access to the best pool on property!

3. Safety: interior hallways are safer no matter where you are.

I hope this helps...PO is by no means unsafe, though, and I'm sure you'd have a great time there as well.

I've never felt unsafe at any WDW resort, even when in the Hoops building facing the woods in the very back of AS Sports with just my 9 year old (at the time) son and myself on one trip.

So I wouldn't really let the safety issue be the deciding vote. RAther, look at the other amenities in the price difference.

The first thing I'm thinking is sleeping arrangements. At the YC you will have a daybed in your room that will easily accomodate your son (or daughter for that matter!). So no sharing and no fighting over the beds. That to me is almost worth the extra cost, I think you'll all sleep better, and we know that sleep is SO important at WDW!

Next as another poster mentioned is the availability of Stormalong Bay. Your kids will LOVE this swimming area.

The close proximatey to Epcot and MGM also make this an ideal resort for your family.

Another thing not yet mentioned is the closeness to the Boardwalk area where you can have loads of FREE fun in the evenings watching the street performers.

Yes, the savings at PO would be nice, but IMHO you get so many more amenities at the deluxe resorts that it's worth paying the extra for them.

I went to POR solo so safety was a big issue to me. I know this goes against the literature, but I actually feel safer with exterior doors than interior hallways. I figure more people are around, so if someone wanted to "hide" and attack me, they couldn't. Also, outside I figure I have a better chance of being heard if I scream. However, there was one time I didn't feel safe at POR. The room they assigned me was on the "back side" overlooking what they called a garden, I thought bushes for someone to hide in, and it was first floor. But when I went back and asked to be moved, the CM was very nice and gave me a second floor room facing the river (and walkway-where there are lots of people).

This was a domestic problem which involved a WDW guest. A room service waiter was taken hostage. It ended peacefully. You can read about it by doing a search on CNN using "hostage disney" as the search terms.

I've always felt plenty safe at the moderates. Like others have mentioned, access to the parking lot is controlled, so you're really just there with other hotel guests. Plus, even POFQ, the smallest one, is so big that there are always people around. It's not like anything could happen unnoticed.

When I was in high school, my mom and my aunt took my sister and I to WDW, and we stayed at POFQ. We felt completely safe the whole time. We even let my sister, who was 13 at the time, stay in the room by herself when she got tired.

I stayed at POR mansions last year alone with my daughter. I requested 2nd floor. I felt very safe and had no problems at all. Once I heard the toilet flush next door, I knew help was only a scream away!!!
