T&B, I"m LDS too, and I have a great aunt and uncle who have 14 kids!! I think that is ridiculous. There is no way you could ever give those kids enough one on one attention The older kids end up raising the younger ones. We had 5 kids in my family, and I felt like THAT was a lot.

My one nephew who was recently married and who doesn't have children yet is going to get the test to find out if he is a carrier for Picks. I know that he will be totally crushed if he is, but I so respect that he's thinking through the decision to have kids. Very sad situation.

Fourteen kids is a lot! My great aunt and uncle had 16 (not LDS) and all lived to be adults, but that was a long time ago before b/c.

My niece's husband does NOTHING to help around the house, either. The kids are pretty much expected to run the household, with the kids working into the work rotation at 5yo.

I'd be scared if my DH said that! :rotfl2:

As far as kids doing chores, I'm all for kids doing them, but in their case the oldest kids are now 14yo and they will match the older kids with a younger one and if they are on laundry duty, expect them to do the laundry for the entire family--all towels, clothes, etc. And this has been going on for years, so the "older child" used to be a lot younger. Or they'd (one older child with the "help" on one younger child) have to clean up after dinner for the entire family, which is a lot of work with a family so large. My kids have to clean up after dinner, too, but they've been taught my expectations and it's age appropriate. Oh, and starting sometime in middle school my kids have to start doing their own laundry, which shocks all my friends that I have them do that, so I'm not against kids doing laundry. :teeth:

My kids all have chores to do too but I must admit I have really slacked off on making sure they get done this summer. I'm such a softee this time of year! LOL

My DS-14 is in charge of picking up the living room, scooping the kitty box and wiping down the bathroom. My DS-16 is in charge of emptying the dishwasher, vacuuming and picking up dining room. They each do dishes at night 2 times a week and are expected to keep their rooms clean ( )
They share mowing the lawn duties. One does the front and sides, the other the back. The next time they switch.

I don't think its too much and not everything has to be done daily.

My DS-16 chooses to do his own laundry, my 19 year old has been doing his own too for years. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

That cracked me up!

Morning everyone. :wave2: Trying to get stuff done today. I have two helpers this week and unfortunately they are the "needy" type. I can give them instructions on how to do something and 5 min. later they will be back because they don't understand something. I haven't been able to get much done this week because one of them is in my office every 10 to 15 min. :sad2: And I wanted to spend today cleaning my cluttered office.

Tomorrow I am going to a Dis meet in Frederick, MD. And Sunday I am hoping to make it to Costco.

What time does Costco close on Saturday? If there's time after meet on Saturday you should check out the Frederick Costco, which is about 5 minutes from the meet --they have gas for a good price (good being a relative term...), it's a nice store, and it's not usually too busy. Even on a Saturday afternoon it shouldn't be too bad (unlike the Gaithersburg store, which I avoid at all costs  ).
