You know, Crazy Redheaded Passions' initials are CRP........which sort of comes out to CRAP........and thus, Passions is right back to Dooty again. I'm afraid you just can't escape it. It's meant to be.
:rotfl2:

MMMMMMM, candy pumpkins.........almost as good as CRANBERRIES, which is just under the rest of the C food group.......Chocolate, Coca cola and Cheese. :rotfl:

Cookies would fall under candy pumpkins.........ah, but Cadbury eggs are a bit above them........
Maybe it would be best if you gave your brain a little rest. ;)

I volunteer at a cat shelter. What do you need to know? May I still call you the crazy redhead lady, anyway? :rotfl:

We are thinking of getting a cat from our local shelter and we are wondering what you think the average monthly cost is? (Excluding shots, spaying, de clawed, etc)
So which is it CRP or dooty?

Well I am already Crappy so you have to stay with Dooty!

Cats aren't terribly expensive, assuming that they are healthy. Of course you have some upfront costs with the litterbox, nail clippers (we need to talk about this declawing ;) ), cat dishes, toys, etc. The food and litter aren't that expensive unless there is a special dietary need (one of our cats needs Rx food, which means they all eat it... $$$). My DD just got a kitten a few weeks ago and has already had her at the vet (probably ringworm), which isn't too surprising when a person first gets a cat/kitten. I really like getting two at a time (I have 2 sibling pairs--Tigger and Belle, Venus and Apollo). You can spend a lot on the cats if you want, especially if you get things like the Robotic Litterbox. :rolleyes1

Are you thinking about getting a full grown or a kitten?

We would rather get a full grown cat. I had 3 cats growing up and all were front declawed. So that is where I am coming from on that one.
So, any more hints or tips on getting one? :confused3

If you are set on a declawed cat I would look for one that is already declawed. I know in our shelter there are always some that are. Otherwise research it and you might be horrified to discover what really occurs. We did have our first cats declawed and it was horrible. After that I researched it and wasn't happy about what I found out. Tigger and Belle have never scratched furniture and only carpeting once when they were locked in a room. Venus and Apollo are not so good, but I stopped clipping their nails, which I've started doing again.

I would go in as a family and really talk with the adoption person at the shelter. They really get to know the cats and know which cats would do better with young children (and the chaos that goes along with them :rotfl: ). We have a real busy household and our cats are fine with it for the most part, but some cats would not do well in this environment. Then visit with the cat(s), keeping in mind that some cats really have a hard time with shelter life and would be great in a household.

There was one persian cat that was SO scared in the shelter, even though she was housed with her brother. It was fun when she was on medication and I had to get her out of the hidey-hole she would stay in. :scared: She went to a foster home and has done so much better.

There was another cat who was good at the beginning of his shelter life, but became more withdrawn. The heads of the shelter (husband/wife) decided to foster him for awhile, but was adamant that they were not going to adopt him since they had enough cats of their own. He really came out of his shell at their house and they fell in love with him--his adoption was on Wednesday. :lmao:

I went on a tangent, didn't I? There are so many cats that need homes and good for you for wanting to adopt a full grown cat!

So how could you prevent cats from scratching sofa's etc? B/c that is something my DH is worried about

What are you saying here?! Weird?!?! Bessie is a LOVELY name for a tabby cat.:guilty:

Seriously though, you've never ever even had a fish? Maybe a worm?

Ummm, Bessie is a dandy name for a tabby, just not for you....I don't think pirate: ANd no, not even a worm. Though I am pretty sure I never wanted one! :rotfl:
I'd be Kitty Plunkett or Concord. We moved when I was 8 years old. There was Apache between the 2 of those but it was only for 9 months. (that was in Richardson, Paige)
Still very confused here. And I even read back.
Tigger..Did I read somewhere that you work at a cat place? If so I have some ??'s for you...If not, just call me the crazy redhead lady... :lmao:
Ummm, yeah. You so don't want to open that door to her. I don't think I have "met" you btw. So, uh....nice to meet ya~!

Who is the someone? :rolleyes1

that someone is a very smart teacher....

tiffer I can hook you up with a bag if you want.

I go get my mail and theres this package from someone I dont recognize the name of....open it up and then it hit me SNOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWY sent me a gift too. Thanks very much snowy. Now all of the kids are mad because I informed them that these are mine and they are NOT to borrow them.

Clipping the nails helps a lot. And of course having some different scratching surfaces--I like the ones with sisel and a tree trunk--I don't like the carpet ones because I don't want my cats to get used to scratching on carpeting. They also make inexpensive cardboard ones that all my cats like. There are fake nail kind of things a person can buy, but I don't know how well they really work and they seem like they'd be hard to put on, but maybe not.

Some cats are more likely to use the furniture and some don't. We don't cut Tigger and Belle's claws and we've never had a problem with them. And if you end up chosing a cat that's already declawed that would be a win/win situation.

TAE, I like that Teo! How do you pronounce that exactly?

ok gotta toss the laundry...then get ready to go to the grocery store when DH comes in from work....I'll try to be back later :)

Hello....I was so busy at work today I couldn't check in at all.

I read back and all I can say is HUH??:confused3

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH :headache:

Wouldn't you think that when I tell DH that I am going to make pancakes for dinner he might think to say "Did you buy eggs, because I USED THEM ALL UP."

No, apparently not. So I have nothing for dinner. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

Thanks for the help :) Also..do they mind having their nails clipped?

Lots of catching up to do. I guess that's what happens when you get a life! :sad2:

Once a while, you look up at the sky, then you look at what is surrounding you and it takes your breath, your words and all your worries away. Then you look again, and you realize, its your friends.

:flower3:

I'm thinking it's not a "soft spot" that you have.:rolleyes1

Oh my stars!

Mothers have the uncanny ability of being able to know exactly what will piss you off even if they haven't seen you in ages. It's a gift.

I live with mine and she REALLY has that ability! :headache:

Mothers :sad2: They really know how to get you. I am fortunate. My mom is never hurtful, just a pita!

Same here! :headache:

6 freaking am, 6!! Thats what time I have to be at the hospital admissions with NO CAFFEINE!:headache:

:scared:

My husband just woke up. He asked me if I got his pain pills. I told him I did and he asked me if I took any. :confused3

I said "Of course not."

He said he's counting them. What a selfish blank. :sad2:

Tig, you are sooo lucky your cat couldn't count.

:rotfl: :rotfl: Well I guess he has your number!

If that wasn't clear, here is what my cat looks like if she sees the clippers:
