Im with you on this one. $125 for a locksmith on the night before Christmas Eve. The dead bolt on the front door wouldnt open. The key just spun in the lock. At least we didnt need to replace the lock. He was able to repair it. I wish my husband was handy enough to this stuff himself but he says thats why he went to college...so he could afford to pay someone else to do it. :rotfl2:

My neighbor across the street one year decided to install his own underground sprinkler system. Everything went great until the Sunday he went to cut it in to the town water line. He broke off the valve and 2 trucks had to come in, shut the water off to his side of the street and repair the damage. Big-time ouch for him.

I'm SO sorry for the unexpected plumber bill you're gonna get!! We were almost in your position right before Christmas -- had to re-seal one toilet AND re-do some pipes that were backing up. Luckily, my grandfather & my uncle both are retired & do some of the work on the side ... so they came over while my husband was off work & the three of them along with my father in law took care of the repairs & all we had to pay was for the materials (they even refused to let us get them lunch!). Wish I could take some of the pain away for you!!

I am sorry. I know we get to water damages after hours and it is costly and sometimes we get there and it could have waited til the next day. We do carpet cleaning. I hope it doesnt go beyond that.

tried on our own, BELIEVE me..wouldn't fix...had to call in the pro's...so I guess I can add the 675 to what we already invested :headache:
honestly, money woes are just compiling and I have to save extra hard over the next 18 months! Luckily, he got it done in the 1st hour...cleaning up after him took me just as long..blech...

My then 3 yr old daughter flushed an entire tub of huggies wipes (right after they started doing the connecting wipes that were one continuous pile). Did I mention it was the day before Thanksgiving at 6PM? It was a four figure total by the time he finished (and it was also Thanskgiving, technically)

The bright side was that the plumber asked if he could take the mass back to show his colleagues because it was the biggest clog he's ever seen. Our clog made plumbing history!

LOL - my DS did the same thing with flushable wipes! The toilet wouldn't flush and no amount of plunging would work, so we called the plumber. He came out and asked where the vent was. I recalled it was outside (we had snow on the ground) and we went to the vent we saw mounds of wipes beside it! The plumber had to snake the line to the city to clear the wipes. Needless to say, DS was put on a strict 2 wipe limit! Fortunately our bill was less than $200.

Wow. . that's a lot. Sorry.

I think it was 4yrs ago, we came home from Christmas shopping and there was a horrid smell in the house, worse than "there must be something in the garbage" smell. After some investigating, I found about 2 inches of raw sewage covering my basement floor. I was newly separated and unemployed. . .I cried! I just had no idea what I was going to do. I called around and had Roto Rooter come out. They wanted $$$$. So I called another place and they wanted about the same. Finally I went on one of those websites where you put out a request and I had a small independent plumber come out. It was right about the time construction was really tanking, so I figure he must have needed the work. He told me he would clear the line for $100. . .and do it in under an hour. He took off the toilet (it was a total loss. . .it looked like it exploded) and he did it. He then told me to call my homeowner's insurance. . .they won't cover the clearing of the line, but he said they should cover the clean-up. And he was right! I was soooooo thankful! I also had replacement, so I got a nice check when all was said and done for everything that was stored down there. Most of it I didn't miss. . .except for my freezer, all my shelves and some of my totes that were on the floor.

I still have his card and I will use him if I ever need plumbing work again. He was like an angel. :)

Oh I'm so sorry! Those are the emergencies/bills that kill me the most. It's not hard work. I know my DH could do it correctly and very cheaply. He's replaced both our toilets and augered (sp?) bath drains, but it's gross. That's what you're paying for. Ugh. Hope it doesn't escalate too high!

well, it was a painful 675, but it is done. We had tried, thought we had the issue handled last month, but wouldn't you know it, Wednesday night all h*** breaks loose when DD is trying to get ready to fly back to school...so we cleaned up, managed best we could. Plumber could have come out sooner but I had to take my mom to yet another medical procedure, and that pushed the guy to yesterday afternoon. Those rates, sadly, are NOT emergency rates  It turns my stomach to think that I could have literally flown to DD college for a few days and gotten clean there, or WDW! I could've to MK for the day and showered and used the bathroom at my resort and flown home for less $$$$...but that would have left the rest of family pretty grungy, lol...:rotfl: Well, that was a huge chunk of the new carpet fund...guess the dog gets to enjoy the current for at least another year more.
