So, with the closing of the Pleasure Island clubs (Sorry, I know it's still a sore subject for some! ), does anyone know what they intend to do with this area? DBF and I walked through there during the daytime when we were there in Sept. and it seemed like a place that could be really fun at night, with the clubs being so close together and everything. I would hope that they will keep some adult entertainment there.....does anyone know?

There's countless rumors going around the Net about PI. One of the strongest I have seen is that it will be revamped and opened again in about two years. I guess one can only hope!

Disney's official line is that they are making the whole area more family friendly. it's still unknown if they are planning to actually tear down the buildings or convert them. There have been reports the clubs have had electronics torn out of them and construction starts in Jan on whatever they are doing, others saying the locks have now been changed and Disney Security can't access the buildings because they have been sold. Then there's the idea they are gonna move the clubs to Flamingo Crossings.

In short, no one knows and Disney hasn't said anything. All I know is until they reverse their decision, I will be forever pissed off at them. I'm staying off property for a week before I start my CP because I'm mad at them and want to be closer to a company who cares about its adult patrons and my 800 dollars in hotel costs...IE Universal.

I'm gonna stop now before I REALLY get on a rant.

I guess I can SORT of understand...but...well, let's be honest. NOT REALLY lol. I get that if it's a place for kids that they want it to be family and kid-friendly...but...well, let's face it. Not everyone that goes there is going with children. They NEED adult entertainment, IMHO.

Just wish I had gotten to see the clubs before they closed them all down. :sad2:

The bottom line is that Disney sees a more profitable use for that real estate.

While there is a great deal of internet chatter regarding the closing of Pleasure Island....there were many nights when it was a ghost town.

There apparently wasn't enought consistent business to keep it open and viable. Pleasure Island became a shadow of it's former self.

The Disney line is that it will become "shops and retail space". We have reported that one of the spaces will be a Latin themed restaurant. This has been previously announced by Disney.

Whether we will see another incarnation of Pleasure Island is to be seen, but until the economy bounces back...it seems doubtful at best

I guess it makes sense if they're not seeing a profit, I just hope that they keep SOME sort of adult entertainment.

Hopefully they release some info soon....it's a large area of Downtown Disney to have just nothing!!! lol

After seeing it go steadily downhill I doubt they will retry something that failed. I am guessing more shops and restaurants. I remeber PI in its hayday and what it ended up as was sad IMO. Hopefully they will come up with something great for all of us to enjoy.

Wow, it really surprises me to hear from so many people that it went so downhill. I just never would have expected it.

I wonder why business got so bad? :confused3

it seems like the clubs did great when it was an actual island requiring admission. They could have just built a better walkway to the west side and kept it gated. They used to have an actual party atmosphere. They started letting it go downhill and never recovered, BUT it should be noted they never advertised either. IMO they should have closed Motion(there are plenty of other hip hop clubs in Orlando) and BET(who went there anyway?) and kept mannequins, 8-trax, CW, and AC open. They gave the business to Universal and kudos to Universal for acting quickly to take the business.

The late themed restaraunt isn't going to be in a club location though, it's supposed to be in the old lynks building. So the question still remains, what will happen to the actual club buildings? no one really knows

When I was there in the beginning of the month, almost every night I said to myself "It's 11pm, and I have nothing to do. Wish PI was open." I went to Jellyrolls once and it was fun but nowhere near as fun as the AC. Went to CityWalk and umm hated it! I'm not expecting them to bring back any of the clubs or a place to go real late to have a good time.

And do we really need another Latin restaraunt? Doesn't Bongos kind of cover that?

When my wife and I go in May (sans kids) we plan on doing adult stuff outside of Disney because there just isn't anything there. Although one thing I really want to do is see Yeehaw Bob Jackson. However, that may end up being at Gaylord Palms.

You hit the nail on the head. It was best when it was gated admission and only adults. We loved 8 trax. I remeber when they opened Planet Hollywood and we got to see Demi, Bruce, Stallone and Schwarzeneger(sp). Those were the good times. AC was way more fun back then too! It still makes me sad. Oh the gold ole days. We spent NYE there one year for a fixed price and the food and drink were over the top good. It will be missed.

Also, could we can the "guest feedback" line since we all know it's B.S.? Disney's mandate, like any other public corporation, is to make money for stockholders, and the decision-makers apparently think that this action will make them the most money. It has no more to do with "guest feedback" than did tearing out the West End stage or closing Horizons.

When we were there in Oct 08, I was pin hunting and at the koish out side of AC their was a CM that insisted that he had worked there for "years" and had lots of friends, and that they had been told that all of PI would become new shops and restraunts...

AND that WDW had big, big plans to open an Adult only park called Night Kingdom... with a villian theme...
With a new version of the AC club, and more!!

Don't we all wish it was/will be so? :worship:
