Does anyone take their children to Pleasure Island at night? My children celebrate every New Year's here at home (ages 7&9) so I thought it might be fun to do the countdown at Pleasure Island. What do you think?

Does anyone take their kids to Pleasure Island? Yes.

Do I take my children to Pleasure Island? We took the oldest for a couple of hours when she was 17, and we don't take the 9 yo. After checking it out, the 17yo decided to go hang out at DQ with the 9yo the next night. They watched the fireworks from the West Side with us, and we left DTD for the night. Personally, I don't think PI is a place for children, but to each their own. I see a lot of people who let their kids do things my kids aren't allowed to do. C'est la vie.

If you take your kids to the Adventurer's Club and Comedy Warehouse the humor is no worse then prime time television. There is partying and young adults dressed like young adults out on the town. I see no problem with bringing kids but you know what you are going to get and that should be your deciding factor.

Well, I was physically assaulted by two drunken men when I was at PI several years ago, at age 22. I look very young (not trying to brag, but at that point in my life, most people assumed I was about 16 by the way I looked).

On the way out of PI, the first guy asked my friend and I what time it was and when I ignored him, he grabbed my arm and would not let go. His friend began making obscene comments to us. My friend yelled at him and make a scene and he let us go and we ran to the parking lot(we were waiting for my aunt to pick us up). I probably should have reported it but I didn't.

That said, I would never bring a teenager, esp. a girl to PI late at night. Earlier in the evening is okay, and I agree that the comedy at Adventurers Club is no worse than Prime time. They'll get it if they get it and if not it will zoom over their heads. But later in the night the behavior of the adults becomes rowdy and NC-17 rated.

I'd say no. But it really depends on your situation. I don't think it's appropriate at all for kids, but then, I don't think MTV is appropriate for kids either.

It's been a long time since I was at Pleasure Island, at least 10 years, and I remember it more as a happy fun time. I hadn't really planned on spending the evening going to the different clubs so much. We were thinking of watching Illuminations at Epcot then going to PI for the countdown. You have all made really good points. I was thinking more of what we were doing as a family, not of the behaviours of others. I guess I need to rethink this whole thing. Thanks for your insight.

If you're going just to celebrate "New Years Eve" ... then my suggestion would be to hang out at DisneyQuest or the Marketplace until about fifteen minutes out, and then go stand by the gates to PI for the countdown and fireworks.

If, however, what you want to do is "play on the Island," then go early and enjoy the first or second show at Comedy Warehouse (early shows are family-friendly) or a couple of early sets at Adventurer's Club. If you want to visit a dance club, Rock & Roll Beach Club is a great choice for families.

But you do have to realize that you're going to a place that sells a lot of alcohol. It's available on the streets and there are folks walking around with jello shots and the like. The later you go, the more likely you are to see lots of loud drunken people.

Now, if your kids are used to family parties -- the kind where ol' uncle Frank gets a little schnockered every Christmas -- then it probably won't affect them as much as a kid who's never been exposed to that kind of behavior, so it's really up to you to determine whether your kids will have fun. But, it's just like driving -- it's not yourself you have to worry about ... it's everyone ELSE on the road. Same here. There's a lot more alcohol on the streets now than there was ten years ago, and that changes the climate of the place.
