Please think of my kitty

Jill, that's where we normally go, but they were closed on Sunday (Metrowest Veterinary Associates), we took him to the Natick Animal Clinic and they had no idea what was wrong with him. He went to MVA on Monday night and they thought they felt the obstruction and sent us to Tufts. He's been there since Monday night.

Update - We went and saw him again last night. He was happy to see us, had a bit more energy, but spent most of the visit laying down and nodding off. It seemed like he had to keep checking to make sure we were still there ;)

They ran another blood panel this morning, and if his wbc is up closer to normal, they will send him home this evening. He's not eating (a lot of cats just don't at the vet), and is very nervous. They have started syringe feeding him, because his liver will be compromised if he doesn't start getting nutrition. If he comes home and starts eating, we're on the right road. They will call me once the blood work comes back.

So, keep sending Pixie Dust, that's some powerful stuff!

P&PD that he can come home and get back in his normal routine! My pups are always exhausted after a hosp stay. Just like us, they can't get any rest in the hospital either!

P & PD that you will get the call today for him to come home to his good "homecooked" meals.. Home meals are so much better than hospital meals!! (even the cats know this!)

Yay! Dr. just called. He can come home. Blood work is in the right direction. Not necessarily "normal" yet, but getting there! We need to get him to eat, otherwise he will have to go back tomorrow and get an esophageal tube so he can get the calories he needs to keep his liver in good shape. Baby steps...I can go get him this afternoon!

Yes, that's the name of the place! (I've got a nasty head cold and not thinking clearly)

Hope that Meezer will be feeling better soon. Maybe being back home will be the best thing for him. Still sending pixie dust (and catnip) his way. :)

Jill

:banana: So glad to hear the Meezer is coming home. Poor boy, hopefully being home will be exactly what he needs.

I'm glad to hear he is now at home. I know he is a much happier kitty in his own surroundings and with his family. I sure hope he's eating and continues to get better.

He is home and he appears to be happy. They said he didn't like the hospital much, didn't eat (other than by them syringe feeding him), they don't think he slept much, and they tried to give him a little privacy by putting a blanket over his cage, but he was really anxious during his stay (I can't blame him).

He looks fabulous! Well, he's got a shaved belly and paw, but that will grow back. He had looked very raggedy on Wednesday night, but he appears to be cleaning himself again and the dry skin and shedding has stopped.

He's on three medications. I will be ripped to shreds by the time those 10 days are over. He's not a good medicine taker. I can get the liquids in, but the pills, forget about it! One of the meds makes him sleepy, so he's very clingy and lovey. He again spent the entire night with us in bed, either curled up in the crook of my elbow, or under the covers right next to DH. Needless to say, I didn't sleep much.

He hasn't eaten any dry food, but they gave us some new stuff and he just may not like it. DH thinks his throat may hurt, he could be right. He was able to get about 2 teaspoons of wet food into him this morning, by putting a little bit on his face at a time - he would then clean it off by eating it ;)

He was curled up on my bed when I left, sleeping on a blanket up against my pillow. I had thought about closing him in my room with food and water and his own litter box so we could see if he eats anything, but DH didn't think that was a good idea. He thought it would be better to let him get back into "normal" life again. We'll be home all weekend, for the most part, so we'll be able to get a good idea of how he's doing.

The stress of this week has caught up with me - today is going to be a very long day at work. I hope to be able to duck out early.

Thank you all again for the well wishes, prayers and pixie dust. It gives me the warm fuzzies to know that people are thinking about us. :grouphug:

Glad to hear he's home! Continued P & PD for a speedy recovery :wizard:

happy to hear your little guy is home and doing well, enjoy the snuggle time

So glad he is home and getting some rest! :thumbsup2

How is Meezer doing today?? I was just thinking of him when I was carrying our big boy Kiyoshi in to see the birds. He's the only male with the other 5 females so he is our special guy..

I don't envy you having to give the meds - we have to wrap our cats up like burritos just to cut their nails and even then it takes two of us and we end up giving up due to the pain - inflicted on us and not on them :)

Jill

He's doing okay. The vet's office just called, actually (made me feel good that they're thinking of us, as well as all you guys), checking up on him. He seems to be making very small strides. Not eating a lot, but enough that I feel that he's getting better. I'm going to run to the grocery store and get some sliced turkey and see if he'll eat that. He's more interested in treats than "food" but as long as we're getting some food into him, I feel like we're going in the right direction.

He doesn't seem to be getting dehydrated...but I'm trying not to hover too much (we're following him around so much as it is), so I don't know how much water he's had since he's been home. The doctor was concerned that we have 48 hours to get through before the office opens again and doesn't want him to get dehydrated over the weekend. I may bring him in for a quick check before they close today.

Thanks for thinking of us!

good news that he is eating some and drinking :goodvibes

Glad to hear he is eating and drinking- continued prayers going up.

Back to his regular vet? Bring him in - better to be safe then sorry. With this storm coming who knows when you can get him in again. We have liked that place since we started as they do seem to care about the animals.

Do you have your cat tv (bird feeders) all set to go? We have two cats camped out down in the den watching the chickadee channel. :) We also have indoor birds but the cats stress them out if they watch for too long and the cockatiel (Fred) lets us know when he has had enough.

Hope the boy continues to improve - spoil him rotten and break out the tuna! :)

Jill

He's always been very strange about people food. He only likes what we call "bird," turkey. I got him some shaved turkey from the deli this morning and he ate! Not a lot, but enough that I feel he's definitely going in the right direction.

He's acting a bit more "cat" like too, more playful, sharpening his claws (thankfully on a cardboard box), meowing when he can't find us.

It's almost dinner time here, so we'll try some more turkey this evening.

Baby steps...

We don't have any feeders out anymore. We had to take a pine tree down a few years ago, and we really don't have a spot for them anymore. We toss bread out the back window, and they watch the birds and squirrels, so they have some entertainment!

How's he doing today, Jennifer??
