I would pay 1000 dollars to have a tape of Thanksgiving day on the Captain Kangaroo show - it was so exciting. He would lead into the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and for me it was the kick off of the whole Christmas season!!!!!!

I can't be the only old lady around here that remembers how fun that was!

I remember Capt and Mr. Green Jeans. Thought he was boring as watching paint dry but watched him anyway! :happytv:

But do you remember Thanksgiving Day? Or did I dream this? Maybe I was just the only strange little girl that loved it!!! :rotfl:

I don't remember him having anything to do with the parade, but I used to watch that show as a kid.

Are you thinking of Captain Noah--the local Philadelphia Capt. Kangaroo? He was an older man with a captain like outfit.

The Philadelphia Captain Noah used to go to the local Philadelphia Thanksgiving parade and walk or wave from a Captain Noah float. I just checked at Captain Noah was in the PHilly 2005 parade !

Captain Noah also had a boat like structure in the Philly Zoo.

I never liked Capt. Kangaroo since I had Captain Noah.

Thank you! I'm not crazy! He was so good at getting us all worked up and excited for it...."It's almost time, let's go!"

Man I loved him!

I used to watch him! Just used to crack me up everytime Mr. Moose dropped those ping pong balls on his head. :rotfl2:

My favorite part of the show, other than the Thanksgiving Day one, was when he read stories. He read all the good ones like Curious George and Mike Mulligan! He had such a kind voice, I love it when he read!

I loved to hear him read too. It was so calming and peaceful. Mike Mulligan and MaryAnn was one of my favorites! My son got the book Caps for Sale and we read it and I thought, "it was a better book when the Captain read it" :happytv: I remember Dennis and Mr. Bainter the painter and Mr. Baxter! Loved Grandfather Clock.

Wish they'd release some of his shows on DVD.

I may be crazy but I think I heard that they aren't available (the early ones when I was a girl anyway) because they were live.

I even watched it before going to school in the morning and I was in high school at that time. It was either that or local news.

I loved Captain Kangroo growning up. I don't remember the Thanksgiving one, but then we were usually traveling over the holidays so that could be why.

I vaguely remember Thanksgiving, but I remember vividly the daily show. I loved it and all of the characters. Remember Dancing Bear?

I loved that show. I really don't remember that about the parade. My favorites were Bunny Rabbit and Mr. Moose with the ping pong balls.

I watched Captain Kangaroo! :thumbsup2

There was another show at that time, too but I can't remember the name. It featured a woman and my parents bought me a pair of "Romper Stompers" because Miss (Can't remember her name) used them on the show!
