Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this.

Too much Lysoling, Clorox Wiping and Antibacterializing is what is creating antibiotic resistant bugs.

We have been going to WDW and using the drawers for over 38 years. Have never brought any critters home. We walk around barefoot. Heck, anyone that walks around outside at home should not be freaked out. We touch the handrails at the parks and on the buses. We sit on the chairs and eat off the tables. My children are now 21 and 24, perfectly healthy and not damaged from using Disney rental strollers without being sanitized. I can't even imagine putting my toothbrush in the room safe. I am enjoying my vacation way too much to worry about such things. If you don't expose your children to germs, they will not build up any resistance.
i, and my Harvard Medical school educated doctor husband, agree. We are de-germing ourselves to death.

I don't unpack and that's because I am a slob. DH DOES unpack immediately and he uses the drawers for his dirty clothes. Trust me...his dirty clothes are cleaner than lotsa folks' clean clothes.

I hang up anything that needs to be hung - dresses, jackets, cardigans - but I don't put a thing in the drawers. My bag is my "drawer" :)
Also, I'm not crazy with germs, but I do walk around with flip flops on - the thought of stepping with bare feet on a rug that people have walked on with shoes that have been on a public restroom floor just grosses me out!

dirty clothes go in the drawers. As the drawer fills I tightly roll clothes and manage to fit all the dirty laundry into a medium llbean duffle bag that was packed in our luggage, this gives us plenty of room in our luggage for our purchases:)

I wipe out the dressers, unpack, and use a pop-up hamper for dirty clothes. I like to do laundry while swimming at WDW, so most of my clothes are clean when I arrive home. I don't like putting dirty clothes in luggage, that is nasty!

I unpack all of the luggage as soon as we get into our room. With all of the clean clothes either folded in the drawers, or hung up on hangers, I put the luggage in an out-of-the-way spot and put a bag in it for dirty laundry.

It never occurred to me that people would use the drawers for dirty clothes, but it doesn't surprise me at all. It's totally gross, but it's really no worse than what you touch with your bare hands in public on a daily basis.

I pack my own hangers and hang all my shirts, capris and jackets. I keep shorts and evetything else in my suitcase.

We always wear flip flops in the hotel room. I would never go barefoot in any hotel room.

I NEVER unpack my clothes from my luggage and use the drawers and closets in a hotel. I basically live from the suitcase. Anyone else?

Same here. NEVER!:thumbsup2 And we're DVC members often in 2 bedroom villas.

It seems to me that the people who are using the drawers as hampers ARE using bags, so it doesn't seem like that's a huge issue.

I also agree with the PPs who have said that the de-germing of America is a dangerous proposition and we need to remember that our immunities are built by exposure. It's important to be hygienic, but we can't live in a germ vacuum.

Unpack never...we live out of our suitcases as my wife would kill us if we even had a thought of putting anything in the dressers....:rotfl:

Glad to know I'm not alone. I've been reading a lot of trip reports lately and lots of people talk about how they unpacked. I keep things pretty simple. I don't feel like I have to "dig" through my suitcase because I know what I'm going to wear and where it is. I don't keep anything nice enough to hang up, but if I did I probably would. I use a trash bag for my dirty laundry. I won't do laundry on vacation either. So lazy.

Lol. Funny someone said about locking toothbrushes in the safe. Haha. On our last trip mousekeeping made a little fish with a washcloth and had our toothbrushes sticking out of it. My thoughts were "Wheres my toothbrush. Oh there it is....how cute. OMG they touched my toothbrush!!!". I couldn't stop thinking about her cleaning the toilet with it first. Obviously didn't bother me enough as I still used it.:lmao:

Just added Clorox wipes to my list to clean drawers....dirty clothes in the drawers is gross! We have two pop up hampers to put dirty clothes in. At the end of our trip I fold up hampers and stick on bottom of suitcases and toss in dirty clothes.

I use wipes to clean the insides of the drawers and I unpack. I also keep our dirty clothes in the bottom drawer but in a bag not just loose in the drawer.

We unpack because it feels like we're "home." DW will wipe down the drawers with disinfecting wipes first and then store everything in them. We them put the suitcases in the closet so they're not in the way. It provides us with more room and makes us feel as we have more space since we don't have the suitcases taking up alot of room space.

We usually unpack and use the drawers, I was a little concerned when I started reading this thread. But it appears most people either don't use the drawers or sterilize them -so until that changes, we'll continue to use the drawers ...and continue to build my immune system.

Depends, sometimes I do (long stays), sometimes I don't (short stays) however I almost always use the closet.

Sometimes I keep my clothes in the case (or closet) and use the drawers to hold stuff and dirty clothes(in a bag not like loose in the drawer) only.

Whichever I do try to limit my drawer use to just one or two, to minimize the places I might forget something in.

I do not bring my own hangers, I've never had a hotel refuse to give me more. I do steal the 'laundry bag' for dirty clothes.

I don't clean out the drawers, I do lysol the bathroom, doorknobs, remote and phone as that is where statistically the germs live. I go barefoot and put my suitcases on the floor.

However... I'd throw out the toothbrush if someone touched it, but I am super weird about toothbrushes, mine at home lives in a drawer, it is never on the counter or in a holder it never touches the counter or sink and it is NEVER just out at a hotel. God forbid, I actually tend to throw out my toothbrush after vacation and start a new one. I'm totally OCD about the toothbrush, even in my own home.

I do not unpack and put clothes in the drawers either....I never have, even growing up when my family would stay at a hotel we never put clothes in the drawers. When I met my husband and we would go on vacation he would ALWAYS unpack. I thought this was so strange, because I assumed people just didn't use the drawers. Doesn't matter, I still don't take my clothes out of my suitcase.

We do unpack. It helps the wrinkles fall out of the clothes and its easier to find what you are looking for since all you have to do is look in a draw/closet. No digging down to the bottom of a suitcase.

Us, too.

When I was growing up, we never unpacked. But then, we never stayed for than a few nights.

I like unpacking so much better. You just feel like everything's within easy reach. As long as we stay more than a night or two, we unpack.

Two words people.......packing cubes!

These items are the best things since sliced bread! I pack my clothing in these beauties and label what is in each cube. Each family member has their own colour. Packing and re-packing is super easy. Each cube is popped out of the suitcase and into a drawer. Clothes are kept clean and cootie free, as the cubes are only open to remove items and immediately zipped back up! I really wished, I would have invented these suckers! If I had, I could permanently live in the castle! :rotfl:
