please tell me: anyone concerned about how much space your scrapbooks take up?

ok - just hadn't thought about it before. Someone, please jump in with your thoughts......I'm all ears!

We are talking about how much "stuff" we have in our homes and how to downsize -- one lady said her family has a whole wall of shelves with scrapbooks. They take up A LOT of room.

Anyone take this into consideration before scrapping new books? I never thought about it before. I know if I live a long life, I will have HUNDREDS of scrapbooks. I love to scrap! Now I'm just depressed thinking about it.....

So far I have about 3 shelves on my bookshelf filled up with my scrapbooks! But to me they are something that will be passed down to my daughters! I'm not worried about their space. If it becomes too much, I'll have my husband build something just for them! :)

I think it's a great way to pass on our heritage and legacy to our Children! And a great way to remember things as we get older!

< admitted defeat- its definitely a catch 22- its wonderful to have the memories accessible but they are a (*&^$ to move and store. Sometimes I wish we were more the 1 box for 30 years type of people instead of atleast 1 book a year usually 3... Since I started scrapping 94 I would say that I've completed over 70 books...

I also worry what'll happen to them as this generation loves them- the next will appreciate them, the next will tolerate them and then they'll prob become dead weights... I figure Ill just buy a cemetery plot next to me and let them bury them next to me...

rofl, dd and I were talking about what we (well me) wants done when I die and I told her to cremate me and put me in the garden gnome... she looked at me and with a straight face said, "oh no, I am going to put you in your very own scrapbook and leave it on the coffee table". I about busted a gut laughing. I can see it now, "oh what a nice scrapbook..." and the response would be "oh yeah, my mom's in it" :) :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: only my kid... maggie

OMG! Nicurn you have a comedian on your hands!!! She knows her mother!!!

My kids have been told that they each will have their own personal albums.. than the rest will be split between the three of them...and I'll not which book goes to whom!!!

So far I have about 8 linear feet of 12 x12 scrapbooks, 2 feet of 8x8s, and no heirs. I guess the executor will have to throw them on the fire with me. On that thought, if I didn't love making them so much, I'd quit. lol

wow! Linda, that's a lot! I don't have near that many but I have a lot. I love making them as well and I just never thought how much space they take up.

you can bequeath to me Linda.

That's funny, my mom and I both scrap and she said not to long ago that she wonders what would happen to hers when she dies. I told her since I'm the only girl (out of 4 kids) of course I would take them, but what happens to mine when I die? My son's (19) gf turns to him and says, "Oh great I guess we get them." I looked at her funny and she goes,:thumbsup2 "Oh I mean yippee we get them, did I say that out loud before?" She was kidding, but it was perfect timing and I told her if she didn't take them and look at the EVERY day and think about what a WONDERFUL person I was, I would haunt her EVERYDAY and make her regret it.....because I'm so wonderful. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I'll write that in my will!

There's an old Spanish proverb that goes - "be careful what you wish for - you might get it." (I've only been scrapping in the modern fashion for about 10 years. Imagine how many I'll have if I scrap for another 20 or so.:rotfl2: )

yeah but I have 4 kids so I can spread the load! LOL But if I take the albums I get Dimples too.

Wait, wait - if Dimples comes here, Linda knows she'll have many other bear friends to play with. :)

I've thought of what to do with all of my books too, I have 1 DD6- she loves looking at them- I guess she will get all of them.:scared1: :scared1: It's alot!!

This is one of the reasons why I'm doing mostly digi-scrapping. The completed albums are SOOOO much smaller! I have run out of spaces to put my completed traditional albums, especially since we're not purchasing any more bookshelves to store them.

I'll still do paper scrapping, but for more of a traditional scrapbook - no photos, just memorabilia, etc.
