Here is the lowdown on PO-FQ (our favorite moderate!)
The French Quarter resembles a very cleaned up New Orleans around Mardi Gras time.
The main building is known as The Mint and has wrought ironwork details and a tall glass atrium that houses the front desk, guest services, a shop, a game room, ATM, lounge, food court and a beautiful fountain right in the center.
Outside there are narrow cobblestone lanes, complete with"gas" lamps, wrought iron benches, and magnolia trees. Nothing at this resort is more than a 5 minute walk from your room!
The rooms in French Quarter are decorated in French Provincial furniture, gilt edged mirrors and Venetian blinds. All rooms accommodate up to four and come with either 2 extra long double beds or one king bed. Rooms include a TV, armoire, table and charirs, ceiling fan and a separate vanity area with double sinks. Every room has a window, and corner rooms have 2, but none have private balconies. Amenities include toiletries (shampoo, soap,) housekeeping, limited room service, in room safe, and voice mail.
Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory is the food court for the French Quarter and has been recently refurbished. It is a bright airy place, with a great selection of food, and wonderful pizza. For breakfast, don't forget to try the Beignets! The decor is decidedly Mardi Gras, with all of the bells and whistles. The lounge is known as the Scat Cat Club and is a full service bar that periodically has live music on the weekend. Mardi Grogs is the Pool Bar that serves drinks and snacks.
French Quarter's Pool the Doubloon Lagoon is of a moderate size and has a huge dragon housing the water slide (you slide down its tongue). A Mardi Gras band of crocodiles shoots water at unsuspecting swimmers. There is also a wading pool for the little ones, and a hot tub nearby. The pool overlooks the Sassagoula River.
There is nice playground outside of the main building heading for the pool, as well.
Transporation at this resort is very good. There is only one bus stop, outside of the Mint... and it is the 1st stop going to the parks and the 1st stop coming back. In the morning and late evenings the bus usually goes directly to and from the parks, but during the day, it will also make the rounds of the PO-R stops. We were never inconvenienced by this bus route.
There is a boat that transports guests to Downtown Disney in the evening starting at 4 pm and ending at 11 pm.
Also, there is a shuttle boat running between PO-FQ and PO-R every 15 minutes from 9 am and 9:30 pm... or if you are up to it, the wonderful walkways connect the 2 resorts, as well.
Another bonus, is that because PO-FQ and PO-R are sister resorts, they share amenities... so you get 2 themed pools, 5 quiet pools, 2 hot tubs, 2 playgrounds, 2 lounges (PO-R has entertainment more often), 2 game rooms, 2 shops, 2 food courts, use of PO-R's sitdown restaurant, bike and boat rental and much more, but you have the convenience of short walks and intimacy at PO-FQ that PO-R doesn't afford.
For our money, you just can't beat PO-FQ!
