We are thinking about joining DVC and since we are close to HH, we could definitely use this place. The website doesn't really tell you a lot about the beach area and so forth. IS it accessible fairly easily and what other activities do they have for kids and adults and no cost?

Thanks!

HI!
I live in hilton head, about 5 miles from the resort.
Some basics--the resort is in the shelter cove area, which is a complex of stores and dining about mid way down the island. (The island is about 10 miles long. It is on the water, though not the beach--it is one of our waterways).
You would need to drive or bike to the nearest beach (at least I would, it is a few miles away depending on which you go to. Our beaches are gorgeous, with no boardwalks.
Depending on when you come, you could go to the south end and parkl for free (limited parking), or check out one of the other beach areas (parking as abotu .50 per hour, and the accesses have restrooms and outdoor showers).

There is a lot to do in hilton head, esp if you enjoy the outdoors. If you have small children, we have some nice things for them as well. I have been to the resort a few times, for community art programs, not as a guest, and it seems very nice to me. I haven't eaten there, but there are nice places to eat nearby, as well as golf--mini and regular:)
let me know if you need to know somethign specific, I will tryto help:)

The HH resort is great! I can't say enough good things about it. We have spent the last 7 years vacationing for Sping Break there. The beach area is actually accessible by either a Disney shuttle or you can drive or bike to it. The Disney beach house is located in a development called Palmetto Dunes but the beach house itself is only available to guests of Disney HH. The beach house allows you access to the wide sandy beach plus a heated pool, snack bar and bar and a nice cool interior room with board games and tv. I see many parents bring small children in to give them a break from the sun. The lodging part of the resort is located on the Broad Creek with a long pier that allows you to see the wildlife in the marsh and river area surrounding the resort. Kids and adults use the pier to fish and also catch crabs. The activities vary based on age but most involve arts/crafts, nature exploration/education and my DD's favorite "Kids Night Out". The staff at this resort are the best I have experienced and many are long term who remember you from year to year.

The HH resort is our favorite by far. No other resort compares.

Getting to the beach is an easy 5 min car ride, a 10 min bike ride, or yo simply pick up the phone and with a free phone call Disney will have a bus there just for you (I have never waited more then 10 min).

Wonderful resort.

We love, love, love this place! We are in the process of strategizing the best approach to add-on! The beach house is great and we were so busy with activities that we didn't even get to see all of HH! Just a good reason to go back!

We love HHI resort. After making 4 trips there with our dvc points from OKW(1994) we bought add on in 2002 here to get the 11 month window for summer(peak season here). We are on our way August 12 for 3 nights ..we always stay in 1 or 2 bedroom..love the space, the porch with rockers and picnic table. Great activities for kids and adults. Beach is beautiful as is the beach house with the amenities mentioned above. Lot's of great restaurants(some within walking of resort). We have also enjoyed christmas/newyears week here for relaxation.

We've been there and really enjoyed it but if you're thinking of buying I'd really suggest you go there just to see first hand.

Anyone have comments on Hilton Head in January...for example, how is the weather, how crowded is it, etc? Thanks for the help!;)

We've stayed there twice and loved it both times... Once in a 1BR, and once in Studio...

HHI seems to be "hot" or "cold" for most members... Either they love it or hate it... It has some of the most diehard fans, but there are those that swear it off... So my first piece of advice would be to definately go there first and check it out if you are thinking of buying there... Your best bet would be to book a night or two via cash in a Studio during the offseason... My guess is that it would be fairly cheap...

More than likely, you could get someone from the front desk to give you a tour of a 1BR or 2BR while you are staying there.. You could also get a feel for the layout of the resort, the distance to the ocean from it, and the surrounding area..

The two offsite resorts, VB and HHI, both do an excellent job of providing activities for adults and kids.. They know that they are not attached to the park and so compensate by providing keeping a fairly busy schedule.. A couple of things I can remember: Campfire, Star Spangled BBQ, Shadow's "funny bunny" hunt. Gyotako (sp?), Star Gazing, Sun gazing, Marsh walks, Pool Games at the beach house, Bird house painting, Insider's tour of the resort by Chef Gorden...

By having all of these activities the kids (and adults) really get to spend time with the CM's and get to know them over the course of the stay... It just makes the place feel more like home..

We have also been thinking that DVC HHI would be a great addition for us. Thanks for the info, everyone.

We are heading to our HHI every other year ts in late Feb. so maybe we will look to rent a night there and check it out. I hadn't thought about it but that is a great idea.
