Please stop: The reality shows are getting worse.

:confused3 I happy to enjoy Reality TV and have no plans to stop watching it. I find it fun and entertaining. And so do a lot of other people who watch TV. I mean isn't American Idol one of the highest rated TV shows?

Just because people watch it, doesn't make it good. So, you enjoy watching people's dreams get dashed?

Well, I've seen a lot of really bad scripted dramas, too, so by that logic, we should stop watching scripted drama, too, if we want "good TV" to return.

I couldn't agree with you more if I tried. Don't watch the bad stuff, watch the good stuff.

True, but surely you agree that many people believe that these shows are just awesome.

I believe that others think the shows are awesome, although I don't understand why. I don't and find them degrading to aspiring performers, and to writers and producers who have lost work. Maybe I'm too close?

Didn't care for it at all - and believe it or not, I've never watched "American Idol" either..

I watch some reality shows - mostly because I want the noise in the background up here in the mountains when no one is around.. LOL.. I don't purposely set my watch - so I don't miss them - but if I flip the channel and it's "there" - I might watch..

Two I have watched on a regular basis (found by accident) were:

Housewives Of Orange County
Housewives Of New Jersey

Others that I watch if I happen to flip the channel to them are:

Cake Boss
Bridezillas
Trading Spouses
Wife Swap
The Duggars
Medical Mysteries
Trauma In The ER
Amazing Cakes

No, the worst one on TV right now is on MTV, and I think it's called Silent Library (I saw an ad for it).

Essentially, it's abunch of meathead young men doing ******* style stunts in a fake library and they have to stay quiet to get the money. It took a lot to not throw something at the TV, and it was just a commercial.

I agree, 'Silent Library' is truly the worst reality show. I saw about ten minutes of it and just stared in amazement that this was an ACTUAL TV show....

Then minutes I saw was not meat heads but giggly teenage girls.

Yes. yes I do.

wait! Scratch that! DH likes the dashing of dreams part (the early auditions). I prefer the "watching-a-star-born" part.

I don't watch any reality shows.

They've put too many friends out of business. If you want good TV to return, I suggest everyone else stop watching them now.
Sorry, but some people like reality shows including myself and I will continue to watch. What is good vs. bad TV is a matter of opinion. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it bad.

Yes. I watch reality shows while rubbing my hands together with an evil grin on my face thinking of all the dreams that are being dashed because I am watching a show! Come on, I watch them because they are fun and entertaining.

If someone wants to be a writer, producer, actor, etc. WONDERFUL. But there's no guarantee you are going to be good enough at it to make it big.

It's not as is reality shows are created, edited, and produced by 3 people! There could be hundreds of people involved.

Think of how many people it must take for each season of Survivor!

That is all relative. I know some people who LOVE Grey's Anatomy. I hate it. So who decides what is good and what is bad?

This is really a critical point, and I think that every time someone makes a categorical judgment regarding anything that is judged qualitatively, they're making assertions that, by definition, have no merit. We can make such judgments for ourselves, but categorical appraisals about such things can be automatically rejected.

The only way to legitimately defend a categorical judgment is to show that an overriding number of people share that opinion.

So who decides what is good and what is bad?
See above.

I've always said that I HATE reality shows...but I've gotten completely sucked in to watching them. :rotfl2:

I rarely watch network TV since Friends went off the air. But now I've found that I've been completely sucked into a few reality shows and I hardly watch anything else! My weekly schedule revolves around:

The Next Food Network Star
Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood
Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List
Dance Your A$$ Off

I give up.

In a few years when you all get tired of watching who is sleeping with whom, and after x number of people's dreams are made fun of for the almight dollar, and you want some real programming with real stories, and good comedies, and actual plot lines, don't come crying to me.

And to whomever said something about writers, etc. not making it. I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about writers and producers who HAVE made it and are talented and who have lost good jobs to this drivel.

Least common denominators...

It's actually not a bad premise for what it is. Letting people get to know each other, at least a little, before letting them see each other.

They were blindfolded? I was under the impression that the they were in a light-free room... at least that's what the previews seemed like. I love the concept.

Too judgmental maybe. It's really not up to someone else to tell me (or anyone else for that matter) what to watch. I watched every episode of Daisy of Love this season and enjoyed it thoroughly.

I give up.

Noted.

"Good" is relative. I thought Pushing Daisies was awesome. Not enough people agreed. That's the way the cookie crumbles.
