Please spare an extra prayer for me UPDATE..

Saying many prayers for you and your family. My mother was diagnosed last year and I know how tough it was for us and her. STAY STRONG and positive, the two most important things that got us through. As another said, the treatments today are so much more advanced than just 10 years ago.

I'm home, in the final stages of recovery from a mastectomy on September 10. I'll return to teaching high school math in a week.

It was absolutely not anywhere as bad as I had imagined... I lost lots of sleep all summer over this.

If I can be of any help with the practicalities, please let me know.

I'm so sorry for your bad news. Saying prayers for a speedy recovery. My DH just told me today it would be a good idea to get my first mamogram. I just turned 40 and have not had one yet. I dread it but know I should go. Have a physical coming up next month and will probably get it after that.

dg39,

you will get through it! it may not be easy, but you will get through it. my mom got breast cancer for the 2nd time a little over a year ago. this time last year she had a double mastectomy, and this past spring she had reconstruction. she is cancer-free and doing great!

many hugs for the next couple of weeks! :grouphug:  :grouphug:  :grouphug:

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Try to keep a positive frame of mind. I really believe it makes a ton of difference. If you need to talk, please pm me. It has been 26 years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

I am sorry. Praying that you make a full recovery.

Good luck to you.

Hi Denise. I am sorry to hear about your news. Many prayers for you at this time. I will also include your family and medical staff, so they are strong to help you through this.

I definitely encourage you to visit the thread that LookingForward and MerryPoppins have talked about. There are a lot of wonderful women there. Here is the link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1710007

I'm sorry the news wasn't better Denise. I have 2 friends who were diagnosed stage 1 and stage 4. Both are doing great 1 year later.
I'm keeping you in my prayers.

My mother's cousin was diagnosed in when I was in grade four. This was over forty years ago and she was in her forties at the time. She passed away forty six years later. She had stage four. This was in an era when breast cancer was not as curable as it is today. There is hope.

Denise - don't panic. There are so many treatments. You will be presented with options. Take someone with you to all appts to help you understand them! It's normal that you're in shock right now.

Hang in there. I will keep you in my prayers.

I am so sorry you had bad news. Hang in there and get a support group going. I will be praying for you also.

:grouphug: Any update from Monday?

Prayers being sent up!
