Need the sun dried tomato dip recipe! That sounds so good!

Also, I'm curious about your SIL's cin. crescent roll thing. My son loves cinnamon.

I still can't figure out what we are having. We had prime rib once but this time I'm serving more than 8. Do I do two?

Here's the sun dried tomato cheese dip. Sooooo good.

Here's the cinnamon crescent rolls.

She also drizzles melted white chocolate on top. I've also made them with chocolate and peanut butter chips. Really good. You could sub out any flavor chips you want.

As for the prime rib....can't help you there. Never made one but one day I just might. It sounds so good.

During our Thanksgiving dinner I asked what we should all eat for Christmas dinner together. My 5 year old Grandson said, Pizza. Then everyone else said yeah, Pizza. Looks like that's what I am making. Pizza, salad and meatballs. Reese is a very picky eater, during our traditional Thanksgiving dinner this year all he ate was a couple of green beans and he did not look to thrilled about it. lol So whats a Grammy to do but make pizza for Christmas!!

Christmas Eve is just my hubby, myself and our son, I am making bacon wrapped filet mignon, twin lobsters and asparagus with a homemade pecan pie for dessert. Did this last year too.

we were getting bored with our usual turkey or ham dinner on Christmas day, so the last couple of years ago, we started having italian food. I make homemade spaghetti and meatballs and also make a HUGE lasagna with italian sausage and a ricotta filling. I serve salad and garlic bread on the side. Dessert is whatever I am in the mood to make...Its been a nice change and our kids love italian food.

Christmas eve is usually appetizers, I will pick up a nugget tray from Chick Fil A and have our usual sausage cheese dip, a pizza dip, and cocktail shrimp. For dessert, again, whatever I have baked that week, sometimes a cheesecake.

All this food reading is making me look fwd to it already!! lol

Christmas is my favorite time of the year (even if I am of age already) I think I still have the "kid" in me.

Whenever I see those Christmas lights, hear Christmas songs and see people doing their Christmas shopping also, when I wrap Christmas gifts, I have this joyous feeling inside always!

As for our Christmas menu, we will be having:

- Pot roast
- Grilled spareribs
- Lasagna
- Roasted Chicken
- Cake
- Fruit salad

~can't wait for Christmas as I am really looking forward on eating what's on our Christmas menu! :santa:

For years we did a huge soup night with family on Christmas Eve; we would have 6 or 7 different types of soup, homemade bread bowls, and some salad. Then DH would request a large breakfast Christmas morning, so I would get up early to make baked french toast, egg casserole, homemade hash browns, fruit salad... the works. Then I was expected to make a large Christmas dinner, as well; ham, sweet potatoes, veggies, etc. It got to the point that I was dreading Christmas because I never got any down time, at all.

A few years ago, we started going to Christmas Eve breakfast at IHOP instead of the soup night. That was fantastic!!! I'd still make a pot of soup for my little family, instead of 4 or 5 different types of soup for 50 people. Then last year, I told my family they could choose: a large breakfast on Christmas morning, or a large dinner. They chose breakfast. I put together an overnight French toast casserole, and an egg casserole, and made fruit salad and hot chocolate. Much simpler than in the past.

Instead of a large dinner, I simply put out all the goodies we got from neighbors, some appetizers that we had from parties the previous week, and some homemade candy and cookies, and we all just pieced around, supplementing with leftover soup. Can I just say it was the most relaxing Christmas I've had in almost 23 years??? We are doing it again, this year, as my family all really liked it, too!

Growing up we didn't have an actual big meal, but we did have a special tradition for Christmas eve. Basically we got whatever we wanted! About a month or so before Christmas mom would put a list on the wall, and we would each write what we wanted to have, and she would make it. One year I asked for ham steak, broccoli and potatoes, another year I asked for gummi bears! One sister usually had crab legs, and one liked shrimp. It was a lot of fun and felt very special to us to get to choose anything we wanted. One of sisters is continuing the tradition with her kids.

THis is what my mom did for us for NYE!! I forgot all about that! I usually picked crab legs...my brother always picked McD's. I am going to do this again with my family. Thanks for the reminder!!

This year is a little different for Eve - my youngest is singing at church (and we are NOT a church going family), so plans have been rearranged. So we are going to Buca for dinner. Just the 4 of us. Then we are going to drive around and look at Christmas lights.

Day is at my house with the IL's. I have no idea what we are doing. It's been tacos most years, but I am not feeling it this year. Might just do some shredded beef, some sides, and call it good.

On the 28th I will have my family over. We are doing a big appetizer spread - shrimp cocktail, spinach dip, meat/cheese, hot dips, meatballs, etc. There will be 5 adults and 9 kids - so we need to keep it easy :)

I am not into the "big meals" for holidays. I would rather spend the time relaxing vs. cooking.

Growing up it was always turkey for Thanksgiving and ham for Christmas. Since I've been married we were eating ham at my mom's then going to my in-laws. Then we started eating lunch at the in-laws after breakfast at my mom's. Then the past few years after mom passed away it was lunch with the in-laws. Never know what they are having. Smoked turkey, or maid rites (sloppy joes). I do miss a traditional meal.

This is the first year we are not going back to visit family. We will be staying in our own home for the holiday. I have been talking it up with my daughter about how fun it will be, I think she would rather be with extended family. I told her we can have whatever we want to eat. She wants a Lunchable. So, Lunchables she shall have! She's 5!

I think I'll make ham and who knows what else. Hubby will only have the one day off instead of taking a whole week off of work. That will be very strange indeed!

Last year, our Christmas menu was the following:

Crown Rib Roast
Sausage & Wild Rice Stuffing w/ Cranberries & Bacon
Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potato Souffle
Tennessee Honey Corn Pudding
Green Beans
Rolls

For appetizers, I just served some cheese & crackers, grapes, & pear slices.

Our desserts were Peppermint Mocha Poke Cake, Key Lime Cheesecake, Egg Nog Cream Pie, & Christmas cookies.

For Christmas this year, I'm thinking about the following (still haven't completed decided):

Cranberry Pork Loin
Sausage & Wild Rice Stuffing
Apple Cabbage Slaw w/ a Honey Lime Dressing
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potato Souffle in Orange Cups
Green Beans - maybe some sort of casserole or a Green Bean Almondine

I still haven't decided on desserts. I saw a recipe for a Mocha Cheesecake I may try. I've also done a Gingerbread Trifle before that I may do again. One year, I made a Red Velvet Cheesecake which was really pretty. And I've done a Key Lime Cake w/ a White Chocolate Mousse Frosting which was good - I may do that again this year!

One year our menu was toasted raviolis, sweet potato soup, green salad, & lasagna. Another year, we had a ham with pineapple stuffing, scalloped potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, & pear salad.

Our "green" seems to always be green beans! LOL! And, even though I try not to have a repeat of Thanksgiving, we always have sweet potatoes - it just wouldn't be a holiday dinner w/o sweet potatoes! However, at Thanksgiving, we typically have a sweet potato casserole w/ the pecan topping, &, at Christmas, I make a sweet potato soufflé. So it's a bit different!

I'm not really sure what I am going to do, but I don't have to plan a big dinner since its just us and my dad on Christmas Day.
For breakfast I always make an overnight egg casserole and a french toast casserole. Our dinners have ranged from traditional ham to steaks done on the grill.
I'll probably do a spiral ham on Christmas Eve so I can use the leftovers to make my favorite ham and potato chowder for lunch on Christmas Day. Then for dinner maybe grill Porterhouse steaks. For sides I'll just roast some potatoes and veggies. Our Christmas meal is pretty laid back since its just a few of us.

I think we're going to have lasagna, caesar salad, and garlic bread. I can make the lasagna ahead of time so it makes for Christmas day less hectic.

I love this! Thank you for sharing. I think maybe I will start this but on a different day.

For Christmas eve we have sloppy joes and Ballreich potato chips. Costs a small fortune to have them shipped but it is an old family tradition.

Christmas breakfast is whatever we decide that morning and overnight cinnamon rolls.
Christmas dinner has been a prime rib pasta w/ a horseradish sauce. It is really good but I am thinking of something else this year. Though DH is not liking me changing it.

This is the route I am taking for Christmas.

DD and I talked about this last week. We decided on a bunch of appetizer type things, and then lazy leftovers next day. Mainly just picking. Then that night her father emailed me to tell me he would be taking her Dec 24-Jan 1st out of town. :sad1:

So I guess we will do our appetizers and Christmas on Sunday before. Then I will be alone for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and NYE, so likely won't eat or maybe a little soup if I get hungry.

My daughter and I are going to tackle Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon. It has 35 steps to the recipe.:scared1: I think it's crazy, but we're gonna do it. Serving it with buttered parsley noodles and French bread...:banana:

I usually do a cranberry pork roast and something Italian. Probably ravoli so it won't tie up the oven.

I also do:

fresh mozzarella with tomato
lobster bisque
potatoes with the lipton onion soup mix
string beans with diced tomatoes

grand marnier cheesecake or pumpkin crunch

Ham
Green beans
Mash potatoes
Stuffed cabbage
Sweet rolls

Several kinds of finger foods and olive pickle tray of course.

Dessert is normally brought by several different guest

I love this thread.

Having lived in the exact same area and with the same 2 families (mine and my husband's) obviously I'm only familiar with our own Christmas meal traditions. It's so cool to hear about other people's. Some are so different than ours, but all sound so great!

People are really different, but that's what makes the world go around, right?!?!?

Let's see

apps
meatballs
pigs in blanket
chips and dip

Main dinner
ham
potato salad
mac and cheese
collard greens

Desserts
milky cake
sweet potato about 5 pies one for each person in the house we can't share LOL
Chocolate cake
